Trump, like other cult leaders who’ve used Christianity to attain their status doesn’t believe in God or Jesus. The religion (cult) they create to worship them is all that matters. him. Still, some cult leaders have No cult leader has gotten anywhere near as rich and powerful by playing Christians for suckers than Donald Trump. So-called Evangelicals worship him even more than the Savior they claim to follow, prompted by their leaders. However some cracks have appeared in the facade (especially with younger Evangelicals) and Robert DiNiro’s comparing Jesus’ mention in the New Testament to Trump’s in the Epstein files isn’t going to help Trump with a voting bloc he desperately needs.
It’s not a comparison that works in Trump’s favor. Granted the New Testament isn’t the size of the several million Epstein files that have been released (and that’s only half of the whole sordid accounting) but such nice round numbers are what people will notice and remember. According to an article in The Blast DiNiro making an ‘unlikely biblical comparison’ while criticizing Trump’s handling of the Epstein files could give Democrats a boost in the midterms. Since it’s likely Democrats will retake control of at least the House they’re already gearing up to put Trump’s and the DOJ’s refusal to comply with the law mandating release of the files a priority:
According to The Guardian, Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, has identified the Epstein records as one of his leading investigative priorities.
A Democratic victory would give lawmakers greater authority to subpoena documents and compel testimony, potentially opening the door to new investigations into how Donald Trump’s administration handled the files.
The Department of Justice previously released approximately 3.5 million pages of Epstein-related documents, despite possessing roughly six million. Officials maintained that the remaining records included duplicates.
However, the disclosure process has faced bipartisan criticism over extensive redactions and the accidental exposure of victims’ identities.
The Epstein files aren’t at the top of most voter’s list of reasons to vote for either Democrats or Republicans but the frustration is, for different reasons depending on which Party’s voters bipartisan. So, although not a focus of Democrats on the campaign trail the issue is out there to be touched upon. What DiNiro has done is breathe some life into the issue of holding Trump (and others) accountable by citing Jesus and the New Testament. Since the bulk of voters in this country are Christian or at least raised in that faith they can relate. Even conservative Christians/Evangelicals who ignore the teachings of Jesus and the New Testament at least know what’s in it!
What DiNiro points out that Jesus’ name comes up in the New Testament, the Gospels and all the chapters that follow roughly a thousand times, while Trump’s name comes up in the Epstein files (the unredacted parts) of the ones that have been released thirty-eight thousand times! That could be a campaign sign, a scorecard if you will to the effect of “Trump/Epstein Files 38,000, Jesus/New Testament 1,000.” As I said, those are nice, round numbers that can stick in people’s minds. Including MAGA minds. Those better than I am at such things should go to town making memes with that theme.
Robert DiNiro, who Trump has gone after time and again (and is doing so over this) raised this early this week at an event in New York where some Epstein survivors were present:
Speaking at an event in New York on Monday, the “Taxi Driver” actor addressed several women who have publicly identified themselves as victims of Epstein’s abuse. De Niro questioned why the Trump administration had not released all the records, pointing to how often the president and his associates appeared in the documents already made public.
To drive his point home, the Oscar winner compared those mentions to references to Jesus Christ in the Bible.
“In the entire New Testament, there are just under 1,000 mentions of Jesus. In the first half of the Epstein files, there are 38,000 mentions of Trump, his family, and the private club. 38,000. What is he hiding?” he asked.
I wrote yesterday about how Trump would be having a bad weekend. I didn’t learn about this until just before I started writing about it but since the linked article notes team Trump has already reacted with the typical Trump crap about DiNiro it’s a safe bet he knows. I haven’t had the TV on much today but I sure hope someone on at least one of the various Sunday shows will cover it. No way Natalie Harp would print anything out for Trump about this but he watches a lot of TV including news shows he knows will be critical of him. He can’t help himself.
Again, although it should never have faded from being regularly part of the news let’s hope Democrats will start to include it with their messaging. It’s crucial they don’t just criticize Trump but put forth plans on what they will try to push through to lower prices, restore benefits Trump has cut, end the war with Iran etc. However reining in Trump via accountability with hearings is important too.
Mentioning Epstein, and doing so in a short, to-the-point manner as DiNiro did might pull in some more Independent voters and even some Republicans who want the Party to return to what it was before Trump ran for President. Or at the very least cause some MAGAs who really, really wanted the Epstein files released (because they thought it would finally “get’ Clinton) to say screw it and not even voting. But what matters and too often gets lost is all those who were victimized by this sprawling sex-trafficking ring. Trump and others who indulged themselves need to be held accountable.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
