This was a city to make me proud. My ‘first’ hometown did, as well. But it’s Atlanta that needs to boast. Mayhap it wasn’t as big as NYC, or others that have not been seen, but it was big for here, including the fact that to reach this one, you had to drive (and deal with horrible parking issues). From, of all sources, Fox 5 Atlanta:
Saturday’s protest — the third held in Atlanta this year — drew a large crowd to the Atlanta Civic Center. Participants traveled from across the state, including from Atlanta, Decatur, and Macon. Speakers and performers took the stage before the group marched to the Capitol under a police escort. The City of Atlanta confirmed it issued permits for the march and worked closely with organizers to ensure safety. The Atlanta Police Department said it would actively monitor the demonstrations, which were scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. And it did.
Aw, yea, peaceful protest. That’s the biggest thing. We have to bet others were, as well. That had to have been part of it. With all the crap that ICE has been pulling everywhere (and we’ll have to wonder what else *hasn’t* made the news), it was grand to have something that was the opposite. Let’s hope they did NOT yank people out of the protests. We unfortunately can’t put it past the “all bets are off” for the bully boys. That’s a subject for another time.
#No Kings was bigger and better than that. Now, admittedly, there hasn’t been anything like that here that has made the news in Atlanta. We could wonder if it has. But thousands of people came in for the protest there. Maybe the southern hospitality was in full force. No matter what it was (preparation?), they did well. There should have been some proud people yesterday.
“It’s important because what’s happening in our country is not okay,” said one protester. “It’s important for us to use the rights that we still have to bring our voices together, to fight against it and stand up for the values that matter to us.” /// “We watched the movie ‘Truth and Treason’ last night, and we are so close to being Germany, 1938, and it’s so terrifying,” said Linda Kelley of Macon. “I never thought in my lifetime we’d be somewhere like this. People don’t realize what will happen if we don’t stand up.”
Absolutely. We are reading a book about FDR that has WW2 in it, and we know that is exactly what’s going on. It’s laid out plainly and succinctly. And it *is* terrifying. We can see that Trump is following the Hitler handbook, except it’s called Project 2025. Look at the “presidents” that Trump admires who have iron control over their countries. That’s what he wants. And this is what #No Kings is fighting against. We may have victories here and there in the legal system. But we also have people who have (finally) opened their eyes. They *have* seen what Trump is doing, and NOT doing. They are angry, too!
“I know people wanted change, but this is just not good, what’s going on right now,” said Kevin Kelley. //// “This doesn’t make it better. We can’t see anything that’s gotten better. It’s all gotten worse,” added Linda Kelley. “I’m a retired RN, and people don’t realize what’s going to happen when they can’t get their health care.”
Hello, Republicans? Have you THOUGHT about healthcare? Sure, you’re good for life, but what about your constituents? They’re going to be angry that you cut things such as Obamacare and Medicaid from the Big Ugly Bill. Remember that thing? You should think about that.
#No Kings is for the people. And the people came out. The people who *said* #No Kings. That’s what all of us are about, Atlanta (thank you!) This means a lot. And this came about in a red state. Atlanta made us proud in a very public way. We can bet that it was a surprise to many that this did so well. But it did, and pictures show the truth. Get gone, Trump. Your bullshit is not ours. And more people are changing their minds about you. This is what we show it is. #No Kings.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
