This site has authors, including me, that have written over and over about the danger that Ron DeSantis represents as even further Right than Trump and infinitely more competent and likable as a candidate to an average Republican. DeSantis also has three just wonderful children and a partner in crime (dead serious, she’s his top advisor) in Casey DeSantis, his wife, who looks so innocent in being both unbelievably cute while also absolutely gorgeous, which is impossible to pull off. Usually, someone – any gender – has to be one or the other. All of that is premised upon NOT knowing her. So DeSantis is both a jackbooted thug and has two Ivy League degrees (One a Harvard JD). In contrast, Trump has a bought and paid-for degree from Penn, but there are still people who doubt his work there. And DeSantis has a real family that voters will like.
One of the hallmarks of fascism is that no detail is too small to pass off to others. I give you Ron DeSantis:
A legislative proposal introduced Monday in the Florida Legislature would rename the Reedy Creek Improvement District that has been controlled by Disney World in Central Florida for more than 55 years and replace it with a new board selected exclusively by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
It is almost impossible for a non-Floridian to imagine how big an impact this change could and almost surely will have on Florida. Yes, there are other theme parks around, but Disney is the entire reason there are other theme parks around. Disney is also the reason there are direct flights from Orlando to London. This is a major change in control of Florida.
The 189-page proposal (HB 9B) is being sponsored in the Florida House by Representative Fred Hawkins, who represents parts of Orange and Osceola counties in the Legislature.
Desantis’s control of Florida’s legislature is absolute.
The measure would rename the Reedy Creek Improvement District to the “Central Florida Tourism Oversight District” and would consist of five members, all appointed by DeSantis upon confirmation of the Florida Senate.
And all five will do exactly what DeSantis tells them to do. This is what fascism looks like. Let’s say that DeSantis is “promoted” to president, or let’s say that he died in a plane crash (No, we do not hope that happens). It would take decades to “undo” all that DeSantis has done to Florida. It is that deep, that insidious.
And he’s a frontrunner for president. Fascism.

Disney will take them to court and win. They have better lawyers and more money. DeSatan just bought Floriduh a world of hurt. The legislator who introduced this bill represents the area, pretty sure Disney will find someone to primary his ass. That said, Disney got one hell of a sweetheart deal 50 years ago and its current arrangement probably ought to be examined to make sure the state is getting its fair share of revenue, but this current bill is DeSatan’s revenge for Disney saying they value their LGBTQ employees and customers.
I sort of wish Disney would bite the bullet and shutter the Orlando park and concentyrate on their other sites round theb world (including their California park).
Once the tourists stop coming, deDantis will have a LOT of egg on his face (and the Florida misgovernment will approach the ghost of uncle Walt on hands and knees)
Part of the problem, though, is that Disney’s also invested pretty heavily in cruise lines and three of them operate out of Florida (and those three just happen to be the largest of the cruise ships). The company does have some new ships in the works for the next couple of years and those are expected to be based outside of Florida (and even larger than the current three largest ships) but that doesn’t really help in the short term.
A JD from Harvard? More proof in the absolute bullshit PR in a name. When an institution of higher learning doesn’t instill a sense of social justice then it isn’t what it claims. Given the FACT that we are one species, living in a closed ecological system, with EVERYTHING interconnected, it is ignorant to operate otherwise. A university should broaden narrow self interest, challenge erroneous religious and political beliefs that appear in individual households and communities, and instill a love of the truth. That’s especially true if you are going to make the goddamn rules others have to follow. Once again, America, appears to be a land of hypocrisy, as is its most revered symbol of higher education, Harvard. People are always promoting ‘education’ as the solution to our social problems. Really? With Cruz and this nazi pissant carrying around degrees from Harvard, it’s clear there are no institutions in America that haven’t been compromised by corruption. Goebbels had a PhD. Enough said. Truth should matter. Character should matter. Social justice not only should matter, if we give up on the idea, democracy and the human race are headed for doom. “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” Thanks Mr. Zimmerman for the reminder.
