One of the interesting things about politics is that you never know which races are going to be the linchpin races, the ones that are determinative of a much larger prize. In 2022, the Nevada Senate race has turned out to be the key to Democrats retaining the upper chamber of Congress. We have another shot beyond this one, but this is by far the easier of the two (the second seat needed being Raphael Warnock’s) and it is in reach, like the proverbial brass ring.

Donald Trump knows this, it’s hardly a secret today, and he’s taken to his usual “mendacious mewling” and “drooling nonsense,” to quote Jon Ralston, the Nevada Independent journalist who has an impressive track record calling races, at least since 2016 when I started following his work.

Here’s the blithering baboon’s warning to his election denier pal, Adam Laxalt.

Nobody is sitting still for this. Not after 2020 and the fallout from that.

And there are people complaining why Florida can count ballots so much faster, bla bla. That’s an apples and oranges comparison. Nevada mostly votes by mail. Here we go again. It makes sense that Nevada would now be ground zero for Trump to stage his latest drama.

I’m not holding my breath waiting for GOPers to rebuke Trump — although, who knows? There are plenty who angry at him right now.

Bottom line, Trump is terrified that Cortez Masto will win and then another MAGA-endorsed candidate loses, and he looks bad. This won’t be the final nail in Trump’s coffin, when this race is finally decided, but it will be a solid one. Think of it as a railroad tie. Trump’s awful candidates are the reason that the GOP won’t take back the Senate and they are livid. That’s why he’s showing up and hoping that his toxicity takes root.

  1. Traitor Tot wanted to make the U.S. into a third world fascist country with himself as DICK-TATER (with special emphasis on the DICK!) Or maybe DICK-TRAITOR would be more correct!!

  2. If this midterm election had one positive effect, it was breaking the spell of Trump’s hold over the GOP. It gives the old W-style Republicans (who are still awful human beings that deserve all the scorn that MAGA gets, so don’t waste my time repeating the bleedingly obvious fact that the latter are worse like the excuse it is) the opening they need to initiate a power struggle. They even have a figurehead in DeathSantis, who may find the rest of the country more of a challenge than Florida.

    • I believe you make a good point about the FL Gov. Outside of his state, except in blood red places he’s not going to play well with the masses. Also, everyone should keep in mind that it’s over a year before the primaries will start. Things could change even FL’s support for DeSantis. Keep in mind his petulant stunt with Disney. The impact of his getting the legislature to dissolve Disney’s special district will be that the bills are going to start coming due as early as after the first of the year. The imfamous “Villages” are filled with retirees who are going to see local tax bills jump and not be a little bit either. It will cause a chain reaction on other public services as now road improvements and other public stuff will have to be handled by the local jurisdictions who haven’t had time to prepare. Disney did an awful lot for that part of FL and absorbed the costs. No more.

The point is that FL is a large state both in geography and population. And DeSantis is counting on unqualified support from everyone there as a base for a Presidential bid. If people down there start criticizing him, and with the glare of the national media (especially if Trump is in enough trouble he can’t hog so much of the spotlight and oxygen) it won’t bode well for GOP prospects in 2024. And of course millions of the most hard-core MAGAts will never forgive him for replacing Trump. No Trump, no voting for them!

      • Disney has options too. How hard it would it be for them to pull up stakes to nearby Georgia, for example? Kemp would get a leg up on DeathSantis right there for bringing in a major business (because we BOTH know Kemp wants in that White House too).

  3. When are we going to be rid of the moron? Sure, it seems funny right now, more than a year out, the thought of the mango butt-munch and death sentence duking it out but I suspect it will be less so when those two idiots start their non-stop lying in order to win the nomination thereby creating a great deal of hate and discontent among the magats–and the trouble from them THAT will bring. And all that will be BEFORE the general election and either candidate will be capable of creating another J6 type fiasco.

  4. News flash-he doesn’t need his picks failing election to make him look bad. He does that naturally, all the time. I guess that doesn’t enter his awareness.

  5. I have no idea who it was that said it, but I LOVE the fact that one republican said (and I’m just repeating what Trevor Noah said in his discussion with Mark Leibovich Wed night) “We are stuck with Trump and can’t get rid of him. The best thing would be if he’d just die before 2024”. I have no clue who said this but I LOVE it! even they qare tired of him. The problem is, what a bunch of useless nothings! If they hate Trump so much then just stand up and say “No”. Cheney and Kinzinger did it! Are they the only two repubs in the country with BALLS??!!!

Oh, and as for DeSantis. Ultimately the “joke” is on him, the ecological genius. In 20 years his State will simply no longer exist! Might as well call Florida “Atlantis-to-be”.
