It’s a hard shot to call, which MAGA QAnon Karen is actually the worst, but Kari Lake hands down is in the top two or three. The woman is utterly irresponsible with her rhetoric.
She’s a disciple of the Donald Trump television school of politics, whose sole premise is, “if you’re a popular face on the tube, voila, the rubes will think you know how to run the government and you win.” After all, 14 years of The Apprentice did it for him, why should it be any different for Lake or God forbid, Mehmet Oz?
Lincoln Project factually rebuts Lake’s nonsense and this is one of their best.
Here’s the press release that accompanied the ad today.
August 22, 2022 – In a new ad released today, The Lincoln Project shows Arizona the reality of Kari Lake’s plan to “fire” the federal government if elected governor.
You can watch the ad here. It will digitally target Lake supporters and media in Arizona and Washington, DC.
In one of the most extreme and bizarre policy positions by a GOP candidate this year, Lake proves she has absolutely zero understanding of how government works. Her policy would crush Arizona’s economy, raise taxes, and make the state less safe.
Social Security and Medicare would be eliminated. All the military bases would close – including Luke Air Force base. There would be no one catching drug lords since the DEA would be kicked out of the state. Every single service provided by the federal government would go missing overnight.
“Kari Lake is a kook who makes crazy policy proposals because she’s not interested – nor capable – in governing,” said Reed Galen, co-founder of the Lincoln Project. “She’s just another ultra-MAGA candidate only interested in obtaining power for power’s sake. She is a dangerous candidate who will destroy the state by rolling back individual rights, crushing dissent and consolidating power. Her candidacy should be a wakeup call to anyone who wants American democracy to continue unabated.”
I can’t believe Arizonans are feeling suicidal enough to elect Kari Lake. That said, vigilance is the price of liberty and by no means should we assume that Lake will go down in flames. We need to make it happen.

Lake is a neophyte MAGA trying to make her bones. Who knows what this woman really believes? Oh wait, whatever will get her in on the grift will do.
“Turn AZ into a nat’l joke”? You mean it isn’t already? You could not pay me enough money to go to that shit-hole if there were fifty grand canyons.
Hey Arizona residents, if you vote for her, why not douse yourselves in gasoline, and light up a Marlboro? It’s quicker. Although intense, overall, you’ll suffer less. Hell, you even worked in a smoke break. For shitkickers, you’re still smarter than cattle. I think. Oh wait. There’s Sinema. Damn. Uh Oh.
This one is a really good ad. One minute and nine seconds. Now LP is getting close to the mark. Nine seconds could be edited out to make it one minute. And this ad could be duplicated in plenty of other states (TX, FL in particular) which has big name conservatives spouting the “Secede” or “We don’t need the federal govt.” bullshit but have a shitload of military bases and sometimes other huge govt. facilities. (Hey TX, ever heard of some agency known as NASA?)
For all the good, hard hitting stuff they’ve put out it’s always far too long to air on TV. Two or even three minute ads are fine for social media but with TV a minute is the limit. Now, I can hear folks out there saying political ads on TV are outdated. That they don’t matter. Or that they don’t reach the right audiences or some other thing. And the younger the person who says such thing the more dismissive they are of TV advertising.
My response? If TV advertising isn’t effective then why the hell do so many corporations richer than god spend such fortunes on it and yes, increase their sales/profits due to it? Products/Services or politics the fact is that while it’s more expensive TV advertising DOES work. Yes, social media matters and increasingly so but here’s something Murfster likes to point out regularly younger folks dismiss: Younger people SOMETIMES turn out to vote in larger than normal numbers for the under 30 crowd. But that group has never, even turned out at the rate that the over 30 folks do.
And, as Murf like to say Here’s the McGuffin: Old folks, us senior citizens ALWAYS lead the pack when it comes to rate of voter turnout! AND us old farts in general don’t live our lives online so seniors actually see TV ads including political ones. Especially political ones!
Ads like this edited down to a minute in length (and don’t for a second kid yourself – the Lincoln Project has ALWAYS had a bunch of very talented people skilled at making both 30 second and one minute TV ads) and making them public use so any Democratic PAC can buy air time and run them would be huge.
How bout it Lincoln Project?
