Where shall I start? Oh, let me count the ways. Everything is just grand, so as long as I cover all of them, I should be okay, yes? We have the Hands Off! gigantic protests. We have Senator Cory Booker’s amazing, record-breaking speech. We had the people of Wisconsin deliver a devastating loss to Elon Musk trying to buy a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat. Senator Adam Schiff is placing a hold on the nomination of Ed Martin to be the top prosecutor in DC. Senator Ruben Gallego pledged to do the same for Traitor Tot’s nominees for the top leaders at the VA. Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington spearheaded a bipartisan push to have Congress take away Agent Orange’s power to implement tariffs. And Senate Democrats managed to convince a handful of Republicans to join them in voting to suspend tariffs on Canada.
WHEW! What a list! What an incredible list! Isn’t that something? Now, admittedly, some of those events have less to talk about than others, but still! Wow! I just discovered this a few minutes ago and I am *so* glad I did. There’s also the Fight Oligarchy tour with Bernie and AOC, but that’s been ongoing and I wrote about it earlier today, so no need to repeat it. Oh! How could I forget? Barack Obama and Kamala Harris spoke out!
Let’s start with the first one on the list – the protests. *Thousands* of people showed up to say Hands Off! Thousands of people across the world joined us in saying Hands Off! Folks, I’ll tell ya, even with just pictures, before some video showed up, of all the people protesting was almost unbelievable. And it wasn’t just young people – it was all ages, including some seniors like me! It was *everyone* – everyone came out to tell *ahem* certain people that we’re tired of the bullsh!t. It said we’re tired of a Cabinet that has no way to empathize with the vast majority of people in this country. It said we’re tired of having our rights trampled, our institutions shredded, our schools being threatened. We. Have. Had. Enough. I look forward to what is being planned next and hope to be out there next time! Somehow, I don’t think the organizers are going to stop with just one, not after how well the first did.
Senator Cory Booker’s speech. Dadgum. I have not been impressed like that with someone for a long, long time. And the fact that he set a new record is a bonus. His speech is a much better one to have that honor than the previous one that did. One of the things that so amazed me was that he sounded as good at the end as he did at the beginning! He didn’t show any signs of slowing down. Now we found out later that he was shifting from foot to foot at the end because his feet were falling asleep. But it didn’t seem to bother him. He kept going. And oh, it was wonderful to watch just because he *truly believed* what he was saying! I don’t see any Republicans who could have pulled that off. There might actually be a few, but I can’t think of any off the top of my head. Damn, Senator Booker, sir, how did you *do* that??!!!
Yup, Elon Cheesehead lost and lost by a lot. Sometimes you *can’t* buy an election, boyo. I think he actually made it worse. The race was expensive anyhow, but giving away money to vote? He was struggling. I’m betting the winners won’t get to cash those checks. Heck, I’m not even sure they would be valid! Nice to have that money, yes, *if* they could get it. Also, there are rules about that sort of thing. And the TAXES? Ouch! Did you notice how Muskrat was super quiet for a while? It was a nice change.
I think we could say that Democrats had a Really Good Week. Wasn’t it a joy to see all of this? Wasn’t it a joy to see *positive* movements and actions? Now we can build on all of these and keep it going. Now we have a much greater chance of flipping seats at midterms. Now? We have hope.
*****And now, please read a very special request from our awesome boss******
Zoomers, we feel guilty asking for cash, but if you can spare a small amount, it will keep us trekking through cyberspace. Many hands make light work, many small contributions add up to enough. And most of all, we thank you for coming here to read. Ursula
