well, he has a picture which has marines seemingly backing him up. Probably their duty for the day-might have to give that to different people much like latrine-cleaning duty…almost exactly the same actually.
Military protocol requires enlisteds to salute all Officers in many situations. (For those in the Naval Service which includes Marines a salute is not rendered until outdoors and “covered” as in wearing a hat, or “under arms” as in on duty wearing a duty belt or guard duty and actually carrying a weapon) The WH has Marine Guards posted at entrances/exits and at other duty stations within the building. As Commander-In-Chief a President sits at the top of the Chain of Command, and therefore the holder of the Office is saluted as a matter of protocol.
I can assure you from my own time on active duty (as can others here who have served) that while salutes are sometimes rendered (given) out of true respect they are often giving only to “the rank”, as in despite contempt for the person being saluted their rank requires “lesser” individuals to salute them. While stationed at HQMC in the 1980s I managed to avoid having to attend Reagan’s second inaugural to my great relief. So I never had to salute him, something I grew ever more thankful of as more years passed.
No one should take any meaning from Marine Guards saluting anyone at the WH or when it comes to Marine One (the President’s helicopter which is a Marine Corps responsibility) as it’s simple, basic protocol. Sometimes they actually do salute both the rank and the person(s) but sometimes ONLY the rank.
There are many low-wage jobs former guy cannot get due to his sexual assault convictions and other criminal behavior. We have a very low bar when it comes to hiring the leader of the entire nation: trump proved it was lower than a gnat’s butt-hair from the ground. This country should be ashamed of itself.
