Maybe Lady Karma wanted to really drive home the point to Jim Jordan and James Comer that their star witness is being criminally prosecuted because a second arrest of Alexander Smirnov has taken place, with CNN reporting that the warrant “this time” was “signed by federal district Judge Otis Wright, who will oversee the criminal case out of California.” Seems like they ought to get him back in custody, right? CNN also reports that last week the federal government asked for Smirnov to be detained but a magistrate judge allowed him to be released. What a screwball story, but then this is the GOP, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in charge, so what do you expect?

NBC News’ Tom Winter reported, it’s a “mystery,” at least for now, why Smirnov was arrested again, his lawyers say, on the same charges as the first time.

Winter says earlier today at his attorneys’ offices in Las Vegas, Nevada, “Apparently agents showed up with a valid arrest warrant out of the Central District of California and took him into custody, but according to his attorneys, it was for the same exact indictment and the same exact charges that he had been previously hit with.”

Winter reports that Smirnov’s attorneys say “they would like to know why” he was re-arrested, “and there’s no indication on the docket that the judge has granted some sort of emergency motion to remand him, basically to pull him off the streets because he’s violated his agreement.” […]

CNN notes that after his first arrest, “Smirnov was released by Magistrate Judge Daniel Albregts in Nevada on Tuesday with several conditions, including GPS monitoring and the surrender of his two passports.”

Something is rotten in the State of Denmark, as the bard said. Or in this case, Sin City. And Gym Jordan was miserable when he lost his star witness. And we mean miserable.

Representative Jim Jordan seems to be struggling with the realization that Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden appears to be founded on a bed of lies peddled by the Russian government.

On Wednesday, the Ohio Republican got caught up in his own words, insisting that the inquiry still had merit, despite the Justice Department indictment against its primary witness, Alexander Smirnov.

“You said the 1023 is the most corroborating piece of information you have,” CNN’s Manu Raju prompted the Freedom Caucus politician on Wednesday, referring to the FBI’s FD-1023 form that documents Smirnov’s claims, which he is now accused of completely making up. In December, Jordan claimed the 1023 form constituted the “key” impeachable offense.

Oh well. Another day, another failed impeachment scheme. And there went so many dreams up in smoke. Say, how is Marge doing with Alejandro Mayorkas’ impeachment? Anybody know?

  1. Completely agree with SundaeDivine and Acmusa. Jordan and Comer should be sued for defaming both Hunter Biden and his father. If it turns out they were aware Smirnov was a Russian agent and his story was false, they should be impeached and possibly face criminal prosecution. Let’s hope Smirnov spills the beans in a plea bargain.

  2. Keep in mind if these two Russian assets in congress get an impeachment and it goes to the senate…the senate can open an investigation into THEM. Hey jimbo…can you cockroaches stand the glare of the lights on your corrupt asses??? 3. Marjie seems to be preoccupied with “disrobing” Hunter Biden and now judge Engoron with her eyes. Probably in her dreams too. That would explain her not commenting on this Smirnov business. Hell, she hears the name and probably thinks people are talking about vodka!

  4. Maybe the California judge ordered the arrest because Smirnov told a DIFFERENT “false statement.” I’m not really sure how the law works with regard to “false statements,” but if you’re charged with murdering one person by one jurisdiction but you’re out on bail, it doesn’t mean that a judge can’t order your arrest for murdering someone else. (“Double jeopardy” only applies to a SPECIFIC trial. Being charged with the murders of 20 people in New York City and being acquitted of those murders and then being charged with the murders of 20 people in Los Angeles is not evidence of “double jeopardy.” Now, if the LA case turns up evidence of the murders of the folks in NYC, then double jeopardy would apply to the NYC case but it’s not going to matter to the LA case.)

    • Yes keep him locked up…I wonder if Putler will try to trade him for the ballerina he grabbed. Then we’ll know for sure he was one of their assets. And I hope the DOJ can seize the huge bank deposits he supposedly has here.
