Today we learned that the DOJ was closing its investigation/possible prosecution of Matt Gaetz. Don’t get too mad at DOJ. Every critical witness had lied their way through the whole process, including falsely accusing someone else of the very same crime. Poof. Despite the fact that Gaetz probably did it, the DOJ decided they can’t make the case.
So. Having heard the announcement…
Charlie Kirk would like a word with you. He feels terrible for Matt Gaetz, who – at the very least, proveably paid 18-year-olds for sex and gave them ecstasy, not exactly behavior befitting a noble servant. “Helping with rent” is no less paying for sex than Trump did it with women. But Kirk is very mad about Gaetz’s “political prosecution/persecution.”
He should just be happy the witnesses against him (his friends) were just as shady as him with no credibility. pic.twitter.com/MjF7YZoQe3

Whoa, hang on, Charlie! If we need to compensate a man for a political prosecution, shouldn’t we really get the guys who started the investigation? We need to go back THREE years, when – you know, Bill Barr and Trump’s DOJ opened the investigation? Because they were the ones who both arrested Gaetz’s buddy Joel Greenberg, who will be in prison for 11 years, and began their investigation of Gaetz! According to Business Insider:
Former Attorney General Bill Barr actively avoided Rep. Matt Gaetz in public while the Justice Department was conducting a sex-trafficking investigation into the Florida representative, Politico reported.
So that means that Trump-Barr-FBI started investigating Matt and prosecuted his best buddy, and the BIDEN DOJ ended the investigation.
Are you sure you want to keep bitching, Charlie?
But not only that, as said up top, the only reason they’re dropping the case is the fact that they can’t get a reliable witness. The victim won’t testify against him (It’s northern Florida. Imagine the pressure.) And all the others, well – they have problems.
From Yahoo News:
The Justice Department leadership made a final decision not to pursue charges against Gaetz afterinvestigators recommended not moving forward in the fall. The investigators had warned that two key witnesses were unreliable.
So, as Ron said, the only reason Gaetz got out of this is that he surrounded himself with people as filthy as him who lied about everything, enough such that a trial would be extremely difficult.
But here’s a thing. The DOJ has a 97% success rate in cases that go to trial. This is NOT an impressive figure. It means that they only take slam dunk cases. The percentage one wants should be about 80% because it means you’re trying harder cases. Perhaps there could’ve been a way to rebuild these witnesses such that a jury might believe them. Real prosecutors in state court who don’t get to be as selective as the DOJ and must prosecute criminals in their district often find themselves having to rehabilitate witnesses.
One gets the sense that a combination of DOJ’s fear of its own shadow and some greased hands helped out by Matt’s wealthy father and Matt’s powerful position in the GOP helped the Northern Florida U.S. Attorneys’ office decide to let this go.
And Charlie? Do remember who decided to drop the case “in the interests of justice.” And remember it, if and when that same DOJ actually does file charges against someone…

[email protected], @JasonMiciak, SUBSTACK: GOP FURY OVER RIHANNA’S ‘SATANIC HALFTIME PERFORMANCE’ FINE WITH MASS-SHOOTINGS AND XENOPHOBIC HATRED OF “SUBHUMAN” IMMIGRANTS.

Gaetz still has to explain having sex with minors. And paying for it.
Once again the rich walk. Let a poor black man pull the same shit and at least he’d sit in jail awaiting trial for a year even if the case was weak.
Once again the timid DOJ protects criminals. The guy who investigated said the DOJ had plenty of receipts from travel, a confession letter, and other evidence, enough to indict this fucker. He posted this on Twitter. America…scrap that stupid anthem. We are the land of the privileged rich, perpetually stupid, and consistently hypocritical. Fact.
Agree, Scott.
It would’ve been a hard case and they might have lost, especially in north Florida, but they should have taken a run at it. Everyone knew what he was doing, and I also doubt that his friend was the only one digging into Florida county accounts.
And as I noted above, we’re still left with the fact that Gaetz gave 18 yr olds drugs and paid them for sex. And Kirk wants to die on that hill defending him?
With two.grad degrees I went to Pensacola Junior College to get an A.S. in paralegal. If that girl.had testified,,she’d have been thrown out of her church and been sued for defamation once Matty was found not guilty (which he would have been; this is Pensacola after all and Matty,’,s Dad is a bigwig with moolah). I can easily see her getting death threats, if not facing an actual murder attempt by some crazed Trump fan. She would have to leave FL and move somewhere Blue. Her entire life would be uprooted. I can understand why she was not gonna want to.testify.
