This is shocking but it’s not the least bit surprising. We are seeing the battle lines being drawn every day. Greensboro, North Carolina is the site of the state Republican Party convention today. Two groups of Republicans, Veterans For Responsible Leadership and Common Defense, got asked to leave. Their transgression? They had a petition in the form of a letter, in which they admonished Donald Trump to stop advocating violence and the Republican party to agree to respect voting results and the basic concept of a peaceful transfer of power. As fundamental and reasonable as that sounds, being the very bedrock of democracy and our way of life, the vets were shown the door. Wow. Now we know which breed of inmates is running the asylum. MAGA.

There’s more.

The video, posted by the liberal-leaning news outlet Cardinal & Pine, showed members of the groups Veterans for Responsible Leadership and Common Defense being ejected. “Time to go. If you’re not a delegate, time to walk out. There’s the door,” said an official at the event.

Veterans for Reasonable Leadership confirmed in a post to X that the pledge was not signed.

“We went to the @NCGOP’s convention with a demand that they pledge to honor the election and support a peaceful transfer of power,” they wrote. “They didn’t want to hear from us. They haven’t signed that pledge. Until they do, their leadership and their nominees are unfit to lead.”

The group also has a pledge posted online for veterans to state their opposition to Trump.

“An apolitical and non-partisan military is essential to our democratic foundations and is central to American military professionalism,” said the letter. “We, the signatories, range the political spectrum. Without regard to partisan issues or disputes, we are simply seeking to address Trump’s lack of character and the dangers he presents to our republic.”

“I am not a ‘sucker’ for having served,” the letter continued. “My friends who lost their lives in service to this country were not ‘losers.’ I will not vote for a person who says otherwise. Donald Trump is not fit to be President. I pledge not to vote for him and urge my fellow veterans to do the same.”

It’s time for us all to wake up and smell the coffee. This is who the GOP is. There are still some pockets of sane Republicans, who stand for the rule of law and the Constitution, and certainly there are individuals who have been willing to stand up to Donald Trump –although precious few of those stay stood up to him — but the rank and file GOP has given up. They are the party of MAGA.

Need more proof? Did you catch Ted Cruz attempting to gaslight Kaitlan Collins?

Trump has “backbone and guts.” Maybe compared to you, Ted. Ted does not belong in politics. He has no charm, no charisma, and that would not be a problem if he actually was a dedicated public servant and worked hard. That’s the last thing he does. He spends more time on his podcast and television than he does representing his constituents.

Let’s hope Colin Allred takes him to the woodshed. Wouldn’t that be grand? Here’s a link to Allred’s site. Donate. Let’s get this bum, Ted Cruz, out of office once and for all.

And as to the state of the Republican party: They just decided to get in bed with Donald Trump one night and that’s never going to change. Even though, as Lindsey Graham predicted, it is destroying them. Go figure.

  1. I don’t think any of us here have ever had any doubts about which breed of inmate is running the GQP asylum. They’ve made it quite clear time and again, but there are a lot of folks out there, not as informed, who pooh pooh the danger coming at us. I see a terribly confrontational election ahead, influenced by AI, lies, repug treachery, voting interference, anything they can throw at it, probably ending in violence. They’ve made use of the Gaza situation to peel votes away from Biden, even though a tRump presidency would hand Palestine over to Bibi so he could finish off his campaign of genocide. They’ve managed to convince morons that the economy is worse than under tRump, how, I don’t know, don’t get it, when we are still paying for the tax breaks for zillionaires and tfg will just pile more onto it. I keep hoping for an instant death, stroke, heart, other, to take this freak out of our lives. No one person should be allowed to cause this much grief, upheaval, disaster. We saw the effects of Hitler on the whole of the world. No country/economy was spared. Hitler was serious. tRump, though serious, also likes toying with all of us for his ego’s sake. His disastrous effects will be as widespread. Enough. He needs to be dealt with.
