You know someone is upset when they say something like this. The organization is reputable. There are email lists. The founder is pissed off and doesn’t care who knows it. Considering the subject matter, we should be the same. It involves the police officers and an insurrection. And here we go! With thanks to Raw Story:
Reacting to Republican House members’ attempt to whitewash the Jan. 6 insurrection at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday, Axios founder Jim VandeHei was incredulous and furious at the GOP’s ever-changing views of the Capitol cops who defended them. During an appearance on MS NOW’s “Morning Joe,“ the co-hosts shared a clip of Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) reading quotes from GOP lawmakers immediately after the Donald Trump-inspired riot at the Capitol where they praised the work of the Capitol police for saving them, and then contrasted that with their now taking the insurrectionist’s side out of fear of the president.
This control over Republicans is surreal. There are the ones who have said “enough” and are retiring because they can’t take it anymore. Yes, they are brave now, because there’s not a whole lot Trump can do about it. At least they can tell him off and get away with it. But the majority of the sheep apparently don’t know how to do anything besides be in Congress. What’s the point of having them if they won’t DO anything? Better off that they should fade into obscurity at home rather than sitting in the chamber and whining. Let’s get people in there who have self-respect.
That led to an outburst from VandeHei when asked about the whitewashing as special counsel Jack Smith was grilled and repeatedly interrupted by Republicans. “Give me a break,” he exclaimed. “Like we saw what happened. We saw people storm the Capitol. They trashed the center of democracy. They stampeded over police officers. People were killed. Police officers killed themselves because they were so horrified by what had happened that day.”
I didn’t know the last part, only that they had died. That makes it worse. There were officers injured so badly that they couldn’t go back, whether physically or mentally. We have no way to understand what they went through. No one can unless you were there that day. And now Republicans are *whitewashing* the freaking *insurrection*???!!!! Trump started it, they rampaged, the police tried to protect people, and hours later, Trump finally ended it. NO ONE should be able to pretend it was anything but, especially since Trump enjoyed *EVERY DAMN MINUTE*. What kind of SICK person enjoys something like that? Pardon my ranting.
“And to do anything other than say that that sucks, that’s wrong!” he continued. “It should never have happened. It should never happen again. It’s really –– the only response that you could possibly have –– and obviously Republicans are quick to defend Trump, but there’s not a single Republican that you or I or anyone on this show talked to in the month after that, that would have said anything that they’re saying today.” “So what happened?” he asked. “I mean, you [the GOP lawmakers] were there, and you said the same thing for a month, and now you say a completely different thing? You’re painting a completely different reality. What the hell happened? I want to know. I mean, I think we all want to know.”
What the hell happened?!! There’s fear, and then there are fearful wimps, too fond of doing nothing, too … something. Too nothing. How can they pretend it was something else? The ones who were there were running for their damn *lives*, even Josh Hawley, and don’t get me started on what HE did that day. The election was won fair and square. We, the People, said “enough”. And then 4 years later, everyone forgot about it and put Trump back as President. What the hell happened?
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it”
A. Hitler, Mein Kampf 1925.
Here we are, a whole century later, still trying to see if it’s true.
I know there’s some truth in it. The real question is will ENOUGH people come to believe it?
Or will truth and actual facts prevail ?
Despite these bad-faith attempts to spin a monstrous lie into a web of deceit obscuring their reality of their aim to retain power?
.
The actual passage that a certain Mr Miller has no doubt memorised…
All this was inspired by the principle – which is quite true within itself – that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.
It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.
— Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, vol. I, ch. X
Who could have thought that an understanding of ‘Mein Kampf’ would be needed to understand the direction of republican politics and policies?
Ouch, sir! Thank you for passing this along. Also, ouch again!!
Ain’t that the truth? At least we don’t believe the lies. That’s something. MAGA is starting to not believe the lies. That’s progress.
This corupt, morally bankrupt Republican party is more than merely cowardly, it is willingly complicit in Trump’s destruction of our democracy. If that sounds extreme, I suggest it’s no less than the fact staring us in the face. Republicans know that their minority party can’t gain power by legal means (ie the votes of the people) because their policies are shit, so they’re more than happy to support Trump, a sociopathic criminal who will break every law and norm en route to stealing that power.
I agree! Extreme is Truth now. It describes almost everything that is happening to our country. Trump and the Trump-licans are endorsing destruction. We won’t even get started on ICE and CBP and Bovino and Krispi Gnome.
