It seems that infighting is the Word of the Day now. Since Trump becomes more dementia’d, or Alzheimer’s or plain senile, only one door can produce a winner. The rest? They’re the “he disagreed with something that ate him”. There can be only one, and we have 3 more years to survive. Only the last one is really going to matter. Which door do you want? Or to be specific, MAGA, which do you want? From The Guardian via Raw Story:
An analyst on Wednesday described the MAGA battle unfolding over President Donald Trump’s succession as infighting has ensued within the Republican Party. The Guardian’s Moira Donegan wrote in an opinion piece that cracks have emerged in the Trump administration and MAGA as the president’s influence has begun to lessen. “The sharks can smell blood in the water. After a decade in eerie command of the Republican party, with primary voters in his cult-like thrall and down-ballot elected officials feeling they have no choice – and often no inclination – to diverge from him, Donald Trump suddenly seems not quite in control of his own political machine,” Donegan wrote.
There really isn’t someone who looks strong enough to wear Trump’s “crown”. (Ha.) So far, we can be sure of JD Vance and Marco Rubio trying, well, at least for now. But no one has the charisma that Trump does, not even his sons *snort*, and they can’t be certain that MAGA will transfer their allegiance to someone else. (Saying something good about Trump is painful.) Trump himself is aging faster and faster, and at times, he is not quite all there. The decline really *is* showing every day now. Also, remember the world is watching. Every time he falls asleep in a meeting. Every time he forgets what he’s saying and uses the excuse of ” The Weave,” he humiliates himself in public. We cringe, and the world laughs. He does this out in public, but he’s “perfect”.
Trump appears to show signs of his age and looks pale. His tariffs are unpopular and expected to be struck down by the Supreme Court. His past associations with late financier and convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, including details of their interactions and social connections during the early 2000s, have continued to plague him, reigniting scrutiny of Trump’s relationship with Epstein. New questions have been raised about the extent of their friendship during a period when Epstein was known to be engaging in inappropriate behavior with underage girls. Republicans have begun to look to the future without Trump at the helm.
This is going to be quite something. There just aren’t any Republicans that spring to mind as the “heir” to Trump. We can’t even see a possibility from anyone, again, not yet. Really, it’s not possible. This started a decade ago, with Trump figuring out how to give people what they think they want, which created such slavering devotion and put lots of money in his pocket. They keep buying into it even now. All his failures with things like his own mobile phone series, or gold sneakers, died a quiet death, no more than 2 weeks after release. Those things were disgustingly gaudy.
“The old man won’t be around forever; Republicans are beginning to imagine what the country – and more importantly, their own careers – will look like without him,” Donegan wrote. Signs that the Trump era has neared its end have surfaced, including Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and her public split with the president, according to the analyst. And she won’t be the only Republican to break with him. “As Republicans continue to face strong headwinds from anti-Trump sentiment going into 2026, and as Trump himself dwindles in popularity, accumulates liabilities, and proves unwilling to compromise on his demands or reward loyal Republicans, more and more GOP representatives will likely be looking for the exits,” Donegan explained.
The Trump era is not over – far from it – but we may be seeing the beginning of its next phase: what is likely to be a bleak, bloody, and belligerent battle of succession,” Donegan added.
And there we have it. A brutal battle of succession that NO ONE can predict. No candidates seem strong enough. Definitely no candidates with his charisma. MAGA has stayed with him for 10 *years*. Good gods, that’s long. The question is if MAGA is going to start turning against *itself*, and it won’t just be candidates battling. We think our country is a mess already, and then add that in. That’s unsettling just to contemplate.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

One other ingredient to the post Trump mix as e move forward to ’26/’28 elections. The Republican Party has no apparent election platform, no program of coherent policies. Of late it has been “whatever He wants/says”. The effort to create one will expose rift after rift which will require canny ability and authority so hold together. Your article is clear: who/where is he (it won’t be a she)?
Yea, the Republican party is being consumed by face-eating leopards. And I agree, they have nothing for a platform. One of the Senators in Georgia has already started his re-election campaign. Smart man. Get out there first. It’s going to help him a lot, since there is currently no definite Republican candidate facing him. Cross your fingers. And with MTG saying “enough”, there are, thus far, no contenders for her seat either. Her district starts a few miles away from our home. Any time I *have* to go into there I feel slimed.
No she/her, indeed. We cannot expect that Hell with freeze over.
The more JD comments I read, the more hopeful I get. Thanks.
Thanks but me less so or, at least, breath holding. There are 11 months until the mid-terms and, while the gerrymandering has been weakened, there is still the spectre of martial law to be seen through or its little brother, ICE and whatever shenanigans are planned for polling centres and counts, before, during and after the votes. We need the fat lady to sing asap
