The GOP needs to change its name. The letters are correct, but it’s no longer the Grand Old Party. It is the Grievance Only Party. The inmates have taken over the asylum, the lunatic fringe factions that always existed in that party are now running the show.

Donald Trump was in Hollywood, Florida last night making his “obscene” paycheck for a few minutes appearance and color commentary at the Holyfield-Belfort match, which ended very quickly with a TKO in the first round. Nice work if you can get it, big bucks for commentary on a match that’s over in minutes. Before the match, Trump was introduced and the crowd went ape shit Listen to this. This will give you chills.

Let me bottom line it for you: We liberals have a fantasy that Trump is going to prison  and in reality he’s basking in the glow of his deranged followers’ worship. It pains me to make this observation, you don’t know how much. But better to be in touch with reality than go imitate those birds that bury their heads in the sand and adorn the vests of Paul Manafort.

Now since you’re already upset, you might as well watch this. This will make you physically ill, this young black man choking up thanking Trump for “all you did for the black community.” Oh, puh-leeze. I want to slap this guy up the side of the head but I doubt it would wake him up.

Nothing. But perception is everything. What a fool believes, he sees. What probably happened in the case of the guy in the video above, cracking up on stage with Massa Donald, is that somebody gave him a good job if he would get up and make this endorsement and he decided that he’d died and gone to heaven. That’s the way it is with the Uncle Tom Oreos that revolve in Trump’s orbit. They’ve gotten a leg or two up supporting this racist and so their job is to tell everybody he’s not a racist, he’s Jesus incarnate and keep cashing checks. That is as simple as it is.

If you missed Trump’s “presidential remarks” made along with all the other former presidents yesterday, you can access them in the story linked to below. Why there’s not an embeddable video I have no clue. Here’s what you will hear.

VIDEO: Boxing Crowd Erupts Into ‘WE LOVE TRUMP!’ Chant

Joe Biden wondered in a speech in Shanksville, Pennsylvania yesterday if democracy had a chance in the next two years, four years, ten years. So do I, Joe, so.do.I.

As a final note, it looks like my initial impressions about Trump were correct: he’s not going to announce his candidacy because he needs to milk the MAGAs as dry as possible first. He was asked again this weekend about 2024 and his response was, “You’re not allowed to say.” No, you’re totally allowed to say if you’re running, encouraged in fact, but the PAC laws are different from the campaign finance ones and he doesn’t want to pay the price.

So look for the Long Tease, maybe going into 2023 or even mid-2024. Who knows? All that you can depend upon is that it won’t be according to standard practices because it’s Trump we’re talking about, the iconoclast.

  1. I didn’t watch the video with the young black guy. I didn’t need to. Like others, he got either a direct or indirect payment and should he change his tune, or get caught in private admitting to have “taken the money” and therefore become a liability he’ll be worse off than he ever was before. When we were young there was a now politically incorrect name for this type of person: Uncle Tom. I don’t doubt there are non-white conservatives who were raised in an environment that actually believe in old-school conservatism of limited government and low taxes. But there are all too many who get lucky and have the name recognition (i.e. athletes or entertainers who also happen to be rich and realized their lack of paying attention in school led to them getting ripped off by agents so they want their tax burden reduced) or just get plain lucky and meet someone who thinks they could prove useful in the role of token and you get the kind of guy in that clip. Sometimes they know they are being used and sometimes not. I am unsure about which is worth on that point. What I am sure of is it’s both sad and infuriating at the same time.

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if Trump held off making any announcement until Jan of 2024? That would be far too late for him to get on the early primary ballots (I doubt he’d be able to get on any primary ballots until the mid-March contests at the earliest) and I can’t really see other GOPers wanting to wait beyond October of 2023 to formalize their campaigns. But, it would be HILARIOUS if Trump chose to do an end-run with the GOP candidacy and decided to try to announce in May or June and watch as the delegates (who would already be BOUND to vote for another candidate) end up choosing a not-Trump or even a wannabe-Trumper as the GOP candidate, only for Donald to scream that “the convention was rigged!!!!” and “they stole my rightful nomination!!!!” and vow to run an Independent campaign.

Doing all of that would allow him to just keep the grift going until summer of 2024 at which time, he launches his official “re-election” campaign and raises money for that (and since he knows there will be absolutely no chance of winning, he’ll be able to keep the vast majority of that money–spending just enough to make his “campaign” look legitimate).

    • It’s looking like Fox is going with DeSantis as their 2024 savior. The former guy is becoming less relevant every day, to all but the hardest-core MAGAts.

      • DeSantis will be a nobody by 2023 or sooner. He pulled a Chris Christie Cubed with how he handled COVID and no one will EVER let that be forgotten.

  3. I wonder if the people who paid $50 to “watch” the former guy’s commentary feel like they got their money’s worth. Holyfield (who should have known better than to take this gig) got so beat-up in the first round that they stopped it before the second.

  4. Alright, Ursula, real talk: the only person who is living a fantasy right now is Trump. And he’s far from happy about how he is doing it, if I had to guess. Think about it: he’s got SLIGHTLY more use for those yokels who show up than WE do. And their own behavior means they stand to be among the 350 to 500 winners a day of the COVID Casualty Sweepstakes down Florida way. There’s nothing to build on there.

The world already gives Trump enough oxygen. We do ourselves zero favors by giving him more. There are only four possible places for him to go from here: senility, prison, death or some combo of the three. It would therefore behoove us to look for the next REAL threat. Because it’s not him, DeathSantis, Abbott or anybody using the 2010s Republican playbook.
