Donald Trump is nothing so much as the Pied Piper of the lunatic fringe. They hear his music and they follow his lead. It would be comical if not for the fact that it’s so deadly. You know that broadcast signals go out into outer space. Imagine some alien civilization picking up on these and deciding that’s who we are. That would be sad, but unfortunately, this is who we are. Not all of us thank God, or this civilization would already be a lump of smoking ruins, but more than a few unfortunately.
Most of the hard core loonies in the country stayed in the shadows before Trump, but with his appearance on the scene, they now feel empowered, called even, to go out in public and behave disgracefully.
I don’t know if this extreme acting out is just a fad that will fade away as Trumpism hopefully fades away or if this is the new face of the GOP. Two things are certain: the GOP is floundering for identity right now and current GOPers are terrified of offending the vaunted “base” but on the other hand, a political party that stands for nothing other than appeasing a charismatic cult figure is not a viable option.
It will be interesting to see where the Republicans go with this dilemma, that they are skewered on the horns of. And there’s a third thing which is certain: there is no way that a bunch of Facebook-educated moms and dads are qualified to homeschool children to compete in a 21st century job market.
The part about signals going into space and aliens seeing them made me think about the “Space Cash Test” South Park episode. We failed (of course) and as a result Earth was blocked off from the rest of the universe’s inter-galactic league of civilizations. Given what they are seeing with the Trump stuff I don’t even think they’d bother with the Space Cash Test!
As for all these people all up in arms about masks, I keep wanting someone to ask them ON CAMERA if they’d allow a doctor(s) to perform major surgery on them WITHOUT wearing a mask! And remind them that surgeons and surgical nurses wear masks for hours every fucking day for YEARS, even decades yet we don’t hear these idiots bitching about THAT impairing cognitive abilities.
I think it’s safe to say that the spawn of these idiots are born with impaired cognitive abilities.
If they won’t wear masks, they don’t get in to any respectable/legal business. They can stand outside. Or get delivery. They don’t have the right to endanger others, *including* their children.
They’re teaching their children to be poor losers, to be racists, to be sexists, to be gullible believers in whatever conspiracy theory comes past them.
I hope the kids don’t follow their parents.
Reminds me of an episode of Yellowstone where a motorcycle gang trespassed on John Dutton’s,(Kevin costner), land & started beating up his ranch hands that asked them to leave. Reinforcements showed up & turned the tide & they left. Dutton knew they would be back that night & was waiting for them. As he had them digging their own graves, they whined, “but I have children”. Dutton stated. ” from what I see, they’d be better off without you”. He let them go & they ran like the cowards they are. Point taken.
