There is no joy in Mudville tonight, Mudville in this case being Madison Cawthorn headquarters. A live feed came in from there to MSNBC earlier, triggering a panel of political analysts kicking in their two cents on whether Cawthorn will endure or not.

Let’s just say this, out of an abundance of caution. Yes, Cawthorn did terribly in early voting and was wiped out in highly populated Asheville. But the night is not yet over. It is conceivable that he could pull out of his slump — although, as more votes get counted, if he continues to lag behind, then the mathematical probability gets much less.

Watch this clip. At the very least you’ll get a laugh. Cawthorn is easily the most hated man in either chamber of Congress. At least, that is my assessment.

Bear in mind, these are GOPers talking about other GOPers.

Now, as stated earlier, this could become a nail biter.

NC-11 (R): Man, advocates of the effort to unseat controversial freshman Rep. Madison Cawthorn have gotta be sweating. The lead for state Sen. Chuck Edwards is down to 34-32, a raw vote margin of just 1700 votes.

I just copied that from Daily Kos and the time stamp on it was 6:15:51. It does not, however, state what the percentage of votes counted is.

This may end up in a runoff election. Difficult to say, but we will keep on top of it here.

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

  1. Keep your fingers crossed. I know a lot of folks can’t stand Steve Kornacki but he really dives deep into the weeds for election analysis and with only four states to cover he’s (as always) well prepared tonight. He noted that with much of the vote in, where there’s still enough outstanding to affect the final numbers it comes from the area Cawthorne’s opponent (who is leading) represents. So odds are strong that Cawthorne will come in second. That still sucks but the larger question is that magic thirty percent threshold. Cawthorne is currently above it but again considering where the outstanding votes are and the margins so far IF we (and the NC GOP or even the entire GOP for that matter) are lucky lil Maddie will slip below thirty percent. Dare we hope?

It’s a rare case of bi-partisanship where the vast majority of people want Cawthorne GONE. Out of sight and the sooner forgotten the better. It’s not like we have a chance in that District anyway despite Asheville being there.
