Now, whyever could *that* be? Because there wasn’t a strategy in the first place? Oh, no, our president would *never* start a war without planning. Whatever gave you that idea? Because he’s an imbecile? Oh, right, good point. My regards to Raw Story:
A former GOP speechwriter was blown away on Saturday as President Donald Trump’s “strategy” to win the war in Iran appeared to backfire. Last week, Trump announced that Iran had agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway that accounts for 20% of the world’s energy, which had been closed since the war began in late February. Its closure has sent global energy prices skyrocketing, and American allies in Europe have said they may have as much as six weeks of reserve jet fuel.
Six weeks is not long at all. Not at all. What’s everyone going to do when it runs out? Not fly? That will put a crimp in life. It will leave a lot of people temporarily (we hope) without a job. Who will go to work if no one can fly? Ouch. Haven’t yet heard about any other fuels, so we don’t know when those will run out yet. We don’t exactly have *that* big reserves. By the way, as was pointed out to me by a reader, has anyone noticed all the money rushing into Russia while this closure (and war) drags on? Especially with Russia *helping* Iran? Trump is lifting sanctions, remember.
All of that reversed on Saturday as Trump said the strait was closed again. The president added that the administration is having “very productive” talks with the Iranians, but no solution had been reached as of Saturday night. Tim Miller, host of “The Bulwark Podcast,” said in a new reaction video that the closure showed Trump’s “strategy” isn’t working. “That was fast!” Miller said. “You’re seeing that Trump’s strategy is just making a bunch of claims and hoping that they come to fruition,” he added.
Of course, it closed again. Trump wouldn’t stop the US blockade, so no one who got through the Strait could get to open waters! That was a bad choice, and the world will be hating him very soon. Why the hell are we blockading a French ship? Last we knew, they were nominally our allies, even if they aren’t “helping” with Trump’s ridiculous war. But I digress again.
And oh, mercy, he has *that* right. Trump is doing the spaghetti test of throwing it against the wall and seeing if it sticks because then it’s done. He’s doing that with Iran, and oh, is it embarrassing us! He’s throwing things out there and seeing if any of them will work. He should give up on the power plants and bridges schtick. Those threats aren’t making one damn bit of difference. The Strait remains closed because of *HIM*.
Miller added that the Strait’s closure could compel Trump to make further concessions to the Iranians as negotiations continue. “I think obviously that Trump will continue to offer more and more concessions in the hope that the Strait can get reopened,” Miller said. “But the situation is a lot dicier than it was made to seem 24 hours ago or even 12 hours ago.”
That’s a bit of an understatement. The world was happy the Strait was open. They’re not going to be happy now since it has closed again because of Trump’s blockade. Gas and oil prices will shoot right back up after less than a day of relief. Nice going, boyo. You’ve pissed off the world again.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of elderly, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
