Even in Southern California, a little nip in the air reminds us that fall has arrived. Halloween is on its way, and when Allen and Kiki heard that I was going to read some Halloween limericks, they got scared and ran into the bedroom. They’re still there right now, hiding under the bed among the foo-foos. Maybe they’ll get brave and join us later, meowing for me to brush cobwebs out of their fur.
I suppose we can get started with the silly limericks. I sit here feeling the warmth of the autumn sunshine as it streams through my window, and I breathe in the delightful fragrance of a cup of spiced tea. I invite you to do the same, if it pleases you, and I hope you get a few chuckles from reading today’s diary.
Out of the corner of my eye, I think I see a couple of black and white kitties creeping around the corner. Their ears are back, and their fur looks a little spiky. Hopefully, they’ll run over here in a few minutes, and I can snuggle them and reassure them that these limericks really aren’t very scary.
Kitty-shaped shadows move around the edges of this room. If I didn’t know better, I would be starting to get nervous. In fact, the sun has gone down, and it does feel kind of spooky in here. “Come on over, Kiki and Allen. I’ll protect you from the Halloween ghosties.” I hope.
They pad over somewhat quietly and look up at me. Oof! Two little kitty cat bodies have made a flying leap right onto my lap. Yikes! That was startling! Their eyes are still wide, looking around for who-knows-what. I sit back and relax, then reach over pet them for a while. They are purring. I am loving it.
We all dozed off for a bit, and they are still stretched up against my arms, licking their paws and making little mewing noises.
“That’s starting to get a little scary, Mom.” Allen looks up at me with his big green eyes. “Have you ever seen green blood?”
“No, and nobody else has, either. It’s just a made-up thing.”
“But what about real skeletons? Don’t they have green blood?”
Skeletons don’t have any blood at all. They’re just made of bones. And as far as I know, they don’t walk around, either.”
I’m not sure he was convinced. “Well, this next one isn’t scary at all. Check it out.”
Just one more. I think the kitties aren’t afraid any more. They are curled up and purring. Of course, when I get up, they will be taking off for the kitchen for treats.
‘Bye for now, my friends. I hope your week is not too spooky. Stay well and don’t forget to vote.
