This is sobering in the extreme. Would Donald Trump sink to this level? It’s one thing for him to plagiarize Harry Truman and boast about “fire and fury such as the world has never seen,” and quite another thing for him to actually drop an H-Bomb on Iran. On Friday, Mahamad Safa, formerly the permanent representative to the United Nations for a major human rights organization, resigned from his diplomatic positions to leak a dramatic claim and issue a desperate plea to the United States and elsewhere, according to Raw Story.
“I don’t think people understand the gravity of the situation as the U.N. is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran,” Safa wrote in a statement shared on social media Sunday.
“I gave up my diplomatic career to leak this information. I suspended my duties so as not to be part of or a witness to this crime against humanity, in an attempt to prevent a nuclear winter before it is too late.”
According to Safa, the U.N. is actively preparing for the possibility of a nuclear weapon strike on Iran. The military onslaught on Iran from both the United States and Israel using traditional weapons has yet to produce results regarding the two countries’ stated war objectives; toppling the Iranian government and removing its ability to even acquire a nuclear weapon.
Traditional weapons have also failed to secure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz – a crucial shipping channel through which 20% of the world’s oil trade flows – for U.S. and U.S.-aligned sea vessels.
As such, a nuclear weapon strike remains among the few escalatory measures the United States and Israel have yet to have employed, and, according to Safa, is now actively being considered.
“Yesterday, nearly ten million people protested ‘No Kings’ in the United States,” Safa continued. “The possibility of the use of nuclear weapons must be taken very seriously. It’s dangerous. Act now. Spread this message worldwide. Take the streets. Protest for our humanity and future. Only the people can stop it. History will remember us.”
Ten million is the population of Tehran. It is unthinkable that Trump would nuke the city but here is evidence that diplomats are taking the possibility very seriously indeed.
Nothing is unthinkable with 47. If someone whispers in his ear that he’ll look like a “winner” by nuking Iran – he will.
I wrote earlier about my present nightmare: With “off ramps” being unavailable or too complex for his short attention span, T will inevitably appear to be (already is) a loser. The hurt to demented and ailing narcissistic nihilist would be so grevious as to lead to a grand unthinkable gesture i.e. phat phinger on the nuclear button. Are there any realistic processes that can prevent that event?
trump can’t personally launch missiles only give the order. hopefully people in the military would say no. a vouple of bombs on tehran would not result in a nuclear winter. it also wouldn’t likely destroy iran’s ability to continue fighting. the rest of the world would likely cut off the us completely economically.

Not much sign of any spine in the senior military echelons so far, starting with $millions to sink/double tap possible fishing boats of no discernable threat to US to going ahead in the “excursion” without Congress. The only off-ramp is TACO and Netanyahoo (deliberate mispelling) will bock that until he settles Lebanon. I doubt Iran will even give T a figleaf to claim any sort of success.
There is no one on planet earth who supports this war and the only goal that counts – Regime Change in Iran, more than me! But still, in no way does this war mean we are against the people of Iran, just their BARBARIC government composed 100% of homicidal psychopaths. But having said that, I cannot believe that under ANY circumstances the US would resort to Nukes for any reason whatsoever. There is no reason whatsoever for such an action. That would be barbarism and insanity at a level that not even Mary Trump could comprehend or explain away. PLEASE NO!!! Not ever! NEVER! No, NO NO!!!!!!!!! It may take time, but we will see the downfall of this government with ONLY conventional (ie drones) tactics and munitions.
