And boy, did they. Trump has been smacked by reality. He’s claiming all sorts of things regarding the war with Iran, as you know, but here is our first pushback, and we can expect more to follow. As one of my readers told me, “It’s like a comment I read about the back-and-forth between the US Administration and various NATO countries. “That’s not how you talk with allies, that’s how you speak to vassals.” Ouch. That is indeed what Trump is trying to do. We have no idea how long it will last … or if it will even stop. Trump can’t bully the rest of the world as he does our country. A key U.S. ally called out President Donald Trump’s fibbing about other countries agreeing to help the U.S. “clean out” land mines from the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. Trump claimed during an interview on Fox News that “it won’t take long to clean out the Strait,” referring to reports that the Iranian regime had planted several sea mines in the area to depress shipping through the waterway. Trump also claimed that “numerous countries are going to be helping us,” a claim that was swiftly undercut by a spokesperson for the government of the United Kingdom, The Guardian reported.
With all the abuse he heaped on other countries when they (rightly) wouldn’t help with his war, no one is willing to help him. Trump made his bed. Now he has to lie in it. We already know it’s the proverbial snowball’s chance in hell. It has been for a long time, probably right after the first day of the war. This is not *their* war, and they want no part of it. It’s irksome that Iran won’t let through ships that do not belong to us.
“The U.K. will not be involved in any blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the Guardian understands, after claims by Donald Trump on Sunday that the U.S. would be blockading the waterway with the assistance of NATO allies,” the outlet reported.
That’s a statement of fact. They will not help. Period. Trump has bolluxed up that relationship for good. I’m not sure we’ll ever get anything back, and the chances are looking worse and worse by the day, incited by Trump flapping his loose lips over some expectation that doesn’t make a difference. Or when he’s condescending or bullying. We used to be pretty good allies, too. Trump *never* thinks about that. He’s not the king of the world. Demanding does nothing.
The U.K. spokesperson added that the Strait of Hormuz “must not be subject to tolling.” “We are urgently working with France and other partners to put together a wide coalition to protect freedom of navigation,” the spokesperson said. The announcement came at a time when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire appears fragile, and Vice President JD Vance announced on Saturday that peace talks between the two nations had broken down.
Yup, we’ve lost the UK. Notice they stated they are working with France and other partners. That doesn’t include the US. At this point, we are essentially completely on our own. That’s quite frightening. Our country is messed up, and no one wants to play with us anymore. If that surprises anyone, well, they haven’t been paying attention. Now what?
