The most intriguing element about the two-hour long crisis meeting convened by Kristi Noem on Monday night is the fact that Stephen Miller was not in attendance, according to the New York Times. That may signal that Miller isn’t in control to the extent that he used to be with respect to ICE and Homeland Security. But Noem and Corey Lewandowski were present and if there was ever a time for a turning point, it is after Alex Pretti was gunned down in the street this weekend. Raw Story:
President Donald Trump held a “late-night crisis” meeting with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem Monday as the situation on the ground in Minnesota amid federal immigration operations further devolved into chaos, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
According to insiders who spoke with the Times on the condition of anonymity, the meeting was held at Noem’s request and came amid growing tension between federal immigration officers and Minnesotans in the wake of the killing of Alex Pretti on Saturday, which itself came just weeks after the ICE killing of Minnesota resident Renee Good.
The face of Trump’s mass deportations, Noem’s leadership of DHS has come under scrutiny among experts since Good’s killing, with CNN data guru Harry Enten labeling her a “political disaster” as the situation on the ground in Minnesota grows more chaotic. A union that represents some federal immigration officers had gone as far as to call for Noem’s resignation on Monday.
Tom Homan is headed to Minneapolis. Tim Walz told the press that Trump had agreed to remove a lot of ICE agents from the city. So whether Noem is formally censured or not, it appears that steps are being taken to work around her at the very least.
