Bullsh!t. They are not playing politics. They are *working* for the country. They are *working* for their constituents. They are not “playing” anything. REPUBLICANS are playing. Trump’s frustration boiled over on Thursday when he dramatically called for Republicans to “INITIATE THE NUCLEAR OPTION” and abolish the filibuster to end the shutdown. Republicans quickly distanced themselves from Trump’s suggestion, with Majority Leader John Thune’s office maintaining that his “position on the importance of the legislative filibuster is unchanged.” Democratic leaders pushed back hard.
Indeed, we did. *We* know why the shutdown is dragging on. People are losing the benefits they need. Republicans are dragging this out. They refuse to work together on some sort of bipartisan deal to end the shutdown. It’s on them. The country will start figuring out the Republicans soon because Democrats are on record stating *what* they are holding out for and *why* they (we) are holding out.
The shutdown has created significant pressure points, with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program facing potential funding cutoffs and federal workers missing paychecks. A federal judge has now ordered the administration to use emergency funds to support food aid benefits. Another White House insider suggested Trump’s filibuster call was merely “the art of the deal, and trying to point out that the Democrats — it’s the only reason we can’t open the government back up. The shutdown appears poised to become the longest in U.S. history, with apparently no clear resolution in sight.
Trump *never* expected this. It would not be “a hill he chose to die on”. Tragically, federal workers aren’t getting paid, with rent or a mortgage coming due, food needed, and bills to pay. Sure, there’s a lot of guilt there. A lot. They need to look to their Congresspeople and start asking the hard questions, if they’re Republicans. How is MAGA feeling about this? It’s going to hit them just as hard. Farmers are filing for bankruptcy in record numbers. What about Social Security coming due and no funds in the bank? That’s a load of crap to shovel, no joke intended. Red states are going to be screaming. But America needs its healthcare.
