We’re going to play a game. I’m going to show you a clip and I want you to imagine that the guy in the chair, who happens to be the 45th president of these United States, to our everlasting disgrace, is a client of the woman in the other chair. Let’s pretend that she is a psychiatrist. Because if you make that slight adjustment, this entire dialogue makes sense in a whole new and different way. A way that is actually more valid than the actual truth. And I’ll tell you the reason for our game: humoring the man in the chair and attempting to communicate with him and “normalize” him and his ravings, has become a national obsession. And the press led the way. So look at this through the lens of patient Trump and Dr. Stahl. (Click onto the tweet whether a video is visible or not. Twit/X is balky these days.)

Now if you did that exercise and pretended that this was a patient/psychiatrist session that you witnessed and not a journalist talking to an American president, you see how it fits, right? The “doctor” is attempting to reason with the “patient.” And the patient does not like what the doctor has to say. In fact, the patient gets up and walks out.

And if you’ve having a sense of deja vu, no, I don’t think it’s a glitch in the matrix. I think you’re remembering the American Society of Black Journalists, when they invited Trump to Chicago for an interview. Same dynamic. The journalist who was leading the event, a Black woman, also was insufficiently deferential to Donald Trump. And he told her, almost verbatim, what Trump said to Lesley Stahl in this interview. “That’s not the way to ask,” the way to ask, we guess, being to show deference and awe to the Big Man.

Because on both occasions, and many others, Trump has put down women journalists because they have the unspeakable hubris to behave like professionals and ask direct questions. How dare they? Don’t they know they’re women and their purpose on earth is to fawn all over Donald Trump?

Trump is clearly terrified of women. Which is what made his debate with Kamala Harris one for the ages. And Trump refuses to do a 60 Minutes interview because they stipulated to in real time fact checking.

29 more days. I do tend to agree with Charlie Sykes, that Trump will scream “fraud” no matter what happens on November 5. But if there is a big win for Harris, he’s going to look stupid doing it. He may just end up becoming the Trump Who Cried Fraud one too many times, and like the boy who cried wolf, will end up being ignored. At long last.

  1. Yes, and anyone watching this would come to the conclusion that this man is a vicious psychopath who belongs in a mental hospital. Instead, he’s running to become the most powerful man in the country. If he wins, those who voted for him belong in that hospital.

  2. Trump was using the classic Narcassistic move by gaslighting her. Reframing her words she “would be asking tough questions” by mimicking her in a very sarcastic tone which she of course did not use. Then by lying and saying 60 minutes only asked Biden softball questions.

Fast forward to today, and we have a Malignant Narcassistic Psychopath with Dementia campaigning to be President again. He has infected MAGA with his mental illness. We can not as a Nation survive another Trump, or any other MAGA, Presidency.

  3. I don’t know. Afraid of women? Afraid of men? What I see very clearly is that he looks and sounds really bad — like he’s at the end of his rope. Which he is. That’s what he’s afraid of.
He couldn’t even answer a simple question.
