What you’re about to see is nothing new and it has been nothing new since 2015. The reason it’s good to look at this video is because it’s so completely typical of how right-wing media rushes to normalize the most abnormal and off the wall statements that Donald Trump makes. Then mainstream media kicks in their sanewashed, whitewashed version and the actual madness of Trump’s suggestion suddenly isn’t mad at all. One or two news cycles in, it’s the new normal. For now we’re talking about Greenland. It’s anybody’s guess what the nuttiness du jour will be tomorrow.
The biggest takeaway from this that no one is talking about is FOX interviewing this guy as if Trump’s public statement at wanting to “buy Greenland” is a normal, everyday occurrence. They’re sanewashing it like they do with every fucking insane statement Trump makes. They have…

Trump is only interested in Greenland as a talking point. In his grandiose vision of himself, he’s going to 1. Take back the Panama Canal; 2. Either annex or spike a trade war with Canada and Mexico; 3. And now he’s talking about Greenland becoming the biggest land acquision since Alaska. Ain’t. Gonna. Happen.
And while he’s spinning this fable, of course Elon and Vivek are going to figure out a way to cut taxes on the wealthy, gut entitlement programs, expand the military and oh yeah, now an extra trillion or trillion and a half to buy Greenland — as if both Denmark and Greenland are going to say, uh huh, sure. Ain’t. Gonna. Happen.
But this is how this always starts. Trump makes an absurd comment and his enablers justify it. It has been this way since Sean Spicer said that yes, indeed, Trump did have the biggest inauguration crowd in history. It was a complete lie, easily debunked, but like all the Big Lies Trump has told, it takes on a life of its own after he says it and after the media spin gives it legs. Here’s yet another example.
Kellyanne Conway: “I think many people have questions tonight about the Panama Canal, about Greenland…”
Sen. Marsha Blackburn: “Kellyanne, the American people have given President Trump a mandate. They are tired of our nation not putting Americans first…” pic.twitter.com/aFOlYcWLDI

Oh yeah, the mandate. I forgot about the mandate. Less than 1.5%, it settled out to be when all the votes were counted. And when compared to other administrations, it was the lowest popular vote victory since the Nixon era. That’s not a mandate by any normal definition of the word. Lyndon Johnson over Barry Goldwater, that was a mandate. Ronald Reagan over Walter Mondale, that was a mandate. Trump over Harris was less than 1.5%, no mandate. But don’t expect anything factually accurate to come out of Marsha Blackburn’s mouth, needless to say.

That’s another point to be made, is that the mythical *mandate* gives Trump the powers of an emperor, basically. Never lose sight of the fact that Fox News has been in business for over 25 years. It is *normal* to a great many people and it is so much crazier than when Roger Ailes ran it. Ailes had a way of basically playing it straight but slipping in the propaganda sideways so that you didn’t notice it all that much. This was his “fair and balanced” edict.
Nowadays management doesn’t even bother. It’s all propaganda all the time. The only ray of sanity on Fox News is Jessica Tarlov, their so-called “liberal” commentator — who actually offers up facts over there.
As stated, get ready for more of this. This is all crazy talk but it’s gone through the media processing mill, so now it’s legitimate and talking heads are going to be speaking about the particulars of Panama and Greenland as though there was a snowball’s chance in Hell of Trump getting his hands on either.
We live in the Tower of Babel. We speak the same language but we’re all babbling different realities. There is only one reality, empirical reality, that which is provable fact. The rest is opinion. And it’s fine if it’s marked opinion but usually it is not.

The guy being interviewed on Fox is exactly right. Trump is interested in exploiting Greenland’s rich natural resources. He was interested in his last administration when he floated the idea of trading Puerto Rico for Greenland.
Now he’s had four years to think about how he could personally benefit from acquiring Greenland. I don’t think he’ll let the idea go.
Pinky: what will we do now Brain?
Brain: We’re going to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!
