Isn’t this a pretty kettle of fish? That Gold Card thing is nonsense. Nothing is happening with it. It’s not drawing anyone in. Yes, there is one person who has received it. There are no others. It’s not the big money-maker that Trump boasted about. So, let’s get to it! I appreciate Raw Story:
The White House has been struggling to sell its highly priced gold card visa that only the wealthy can afford, according to new court filings revealed in a Washington Post report on Wednesday.
Just 165 people have paid the non-refundable $15,000 fee to start processing the application, according to legal filings. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick admitted last week that only one person has paid the final $1 million fee to secure the gold card.
Well, gosh and golly gee, we don’t know why, except we do. It’s another one of Trump’s rackets that’s a huge flop. No grifting here, just failure. For all the hype, it’s come to nothing. Why on earth did he think this would work is beyond us. Of course, we were pretty certain from the beginning that it wasn’t going to work. That’s a ridiculous cost.
The gold card, branded with Trump’s face, is supposed to allow any foreign national who can afford its $1 million fee to enter the country. Pundits have joked that the lone customer who secured one so far is Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump has described the visa as a “green card on steroids,” and his administration has reported that it has reeled in $1.3 billion, the Washington Post reported.
Yea no. That’s utter nonsense. We know better because Trump would be crowing about it a lot more than he has. As a matter of fact, he’s been very quiet on this since it was announced. His cash cow isn’t cashing, no, not at all. But if someone asked him about it, he would certainly blather and babble on and on about how wonderful it is.
The White House admitted in legal filings that it has hardly attracted suitors. The administration has received 338 requests for the gold card.
Last February, Trump said that 250,000 people were in line for the special visa, and that thousands had paid the $15,000 fee to start processing, the Washington Post noted.
Just 59 of the 165 applicants who paid the $15,000 fee so far have started paperwork, the filings reveal.
OUCH. Oh, mercy, that’s so much lower than what we were told. It’s not exactly surprising. This thing was a farce from the beginning. Why he thought this would work is beyond me. There are very few people anywhere who can afford that. We could expect they think they would have better things to do with that money than pay some ridiculous fee. Most of the people outside the US with that kind of money don’t care about what that gold card promises. We can now add this to the list of Trump failures. What a joke.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

“…Most of the people outside the US with that kind of money don’t care…”. IMHO, they don’t care to enter a country that Trump, the incompetent buffoon, is in charge of. Just like when Trump wanted more people from Norway, instead of from his idea of ‘shithole’ countries, nobody was interested. Norway is a wonderful place to live. Why would they want to move here, and live under Trump’s shit hole regime?
Yup. He’s devastated our country. No one wants to come over here into this mess. Why should they? He’s gotten to our schools and they’ve had to change things that are stupid. The whole DIE/woke thing drove me nuts!
Shithole regime is a good way to pay it. At this point, it’s certainly true. He’s screwed with all branches of government. Congress bows down and SCOTUS enables him. No one wants to come here anymore and that’s going to hurt us in the future. I’m hoping midterms will happen and Democrats will rule Congress. Then we might have a chance at rebuilding. A chance at righting the wrongs.
I am so sick of SCOTUS doing what Trump wants. It’s disgusting and embarrassing.
>>Most of the people outside the US with that kind of money don’t care<<
Exactly what I thought from the beginning. If someone has that much money, they can have a cushy, comfortable life in their own country, so there's no pressure to go elsewhere.
Traditionally, people have immigrated to America — and other countries — in search of a **better life.** Folks who can afford to pay a million upfront don't feel that drive. Of course, that idea is too logical for Trump to parse.
By the way, and off topic, I can't upvote comments. I was able to do so a while back; don't know when it disappeared. When I hover my cursor, a little note at the bottom reads —

No big deal, really, although I like to give upvotes when I think the commenter makes a good point. But is there anyone in your group who might know what I need to do to bring back my ability to upvote?
