This is nigh unbelievable, or in our situation, it’s a ‘what, huh?’. Trump has decided to do something that might be considered impossible. There are too many factors against it. Why does he suddenly have this grand idea that he thinks would save the world? Well, not exactly. Gratitude to Raw Story:
President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the U.S. will guide the ships of “neutral and innocent bystanders” out of the Strait of Hormuz as negotiations to end the war in Iran continue.
The announcement came at a time when negotiations between theU.S. and Iran are at a rocky point. Trump recently rejected two peace plans offered by the Iranians because they asked him to delay talks about the country’s nuclear capabilities in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz entirely.
“Countries from all over the World, almost all of which are not involved in the Middle Eastern dispute going on so visibly, and violently, for all to see, have asked the United States if we could help free up their Ships, which are locked up in the Strait of Hormuz, on something which they have absolutely nothing to do with — They are merely neutral and innocent bystanders!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“For the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, we have told these Countries that we will guide their Ships safely out of these restricted Waterways, so that they can freely and ably get on with their business.”
There we have the “what, huh?”. They asked the US to guide their ships? Really? That should have been *huge* news, but the only one who knows it is Trump? Since when? This sounds like a face-saving maneuver that won’t happen with the Strait still closed by Iran. Denis has written about what it would take to get through there, e.g., impossible at this time. Trump cannot be right. Iran closure, mines, depth of Strait, etc., etc., etc.
“I have told my Representatives to inform them that we will use best efforts to get their Ships and Crews safely out of the Strait,” he added. “In all cases, they said they will not be returning until the area becomes safe for navigation, and everything else.”
The Strait of Hormuz has been closed since late February after the war in Iran began. The move has sent global energy prices skyrocketing and left U.S. allies in Europe with an incredibly low energy reserve.
Yep, the world has been held hostage since Iran closed the Strait and Trump imposed the blockade. You already know about that point in my view, so, moving along, he thinks our Navy can clear the way through? Last we knew, all the minesweepers were in port getting refitted. He’s going to send ships through, hope they don’t get sunk by mines, where Iran can leisurely lob stuff at us because we’d have to go through so slowly? Let’s have our ships sunk, too. This man is an imbecile.
Trump said on Truth Social that negotiations with Iran are ongoing.
“This is a Humanitarian gesture on behalf of the United States, Middle Eastern Countries but, in particular, the Country of Iran.
Many of these Ships are running low on food, and everything else necessary for largescale (sic) crews to stay on board in a healthy and sanitary manner,” Trump wrote.
“I think it would go a long way in showing Goodwill on behalf of all of those who have been fighting so strenuously over the last number of months,” he added.
“If, in any way, this Humanitarian process is interfered with, that interference will, unfortunately, have to be dealt with forcefully.”
This isn’t going to happen. Again, only Trump has talked about it, and we have had *nothing* from Iran. If he tries to pass through now, considering Iran has plenty of short- and medium-range armament, we’ll have another debacle. We don’t need to send such tempting targets through there. The Navy would probably do what Trump and Hegseth say, considering what they have done thus far. Things that should have been refused. But no. They are not what we thought they were. Really, what is Trump thinking?
[I detest having to write out Strait of Hormuz all the time, so I just use Strait.]
See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
