This was predictable and it was predicted. The inside story would be amusing and maybe we’ll get that. It will also be interesting to see if Stephen Miller changes his tune when on the Sunday shows because to all intents and purposes, Trump has done his usual: he claims he’s gotten a “great deal” on Greenland when there was already a great deal in place.
The is not a new deal – this is Trump surrendering. For now. They have always said that the US & NATO is free to do what it wants in Greenland from a military perspective. And the reaction was what you would expect.

“TACO Strikes Again: Trump Postpones Tariff Threat, Has ‘Framework’ For Greenland Deal,” the libertarian finance-focused blog and news aggregator Zero Hedge wrote on X.
“The most consistent them[e] in Trump’s second term has been that every time he leans into his tariff agenda, markets tank, and every time he backs off, they rise. And here’s the latest round of uppy-downy to prove the point. Markets clearly believe that Trump’s tariff agenda hurts American businesses,” economist and professor Justin Wolfers wrote on X.
“TACO Tuesdays are back. And in true Trump fashion, a day late,” anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project wrote on X.
“Trump just TACO’d. He isn’t getting Greenland,” U.S. Navy service member Christopher David wrote on X.
“The TACO cycle: The markets want to price in TACO, but TACO needs Trump to see stocks tank. So we get these cycles where Trump does stuff and nothing happens (because the market has priced in TACO) … which encourages him to do more stuff until the markets actually thinks he may not TACO and prices start to fall … which restores TACO,” Arin Dube, Provost Prof. of Economics at University of Massachusetts Amherst, wrote on X.
The internet is exploding with this. So much for Trump’s biggest and latest *war* scare. The polar bears and penguins are safe for now. Trump huffed and puffed and didn’t blow anybody’s igloo down.
Yeah, but that’s today’s deal. Eaten bread etc when dealing with a failing Trump who is in desperate need of diversionary issues However, looks good.
That said, penguins (Southern hemisphere) were never at risk!
I don’t understand the point of this piece. Do you now understand or not yet that when Trump says or does certain things that the markets react, then he continues on a path or changes direction and generally gets what he wants.
Not this time, Mark. Instead, he exposed his weakness and deteriorating cognitive abilities to the world. He angered GOP members of Congress, who reportedly threatened to end his presidency if he were to use force against Greenland (although it’s debatable whether THEY would make good on that threat).
The worst result of this incident is that our allies will not trust the US as long as Trump or Vance is in power. The damage Trump has caused to the NATO alliance may take decades to repair.
Did you not see President Trump meeting with the head of NATO? Did you not hear or read what he said about the U.S. President and how he should be and is in fact credited with strengthening NATO and bringing the other nations up to speed?

Nothing seems to concentrate Mr Trump’s attention quite so much as all his backers calling him in a panicky manner because a trillion dollars of value was wiped off the share markets in just one day of response to his imbecilic utterances.
And lo, one day later, tariffs are no more.
The trillion dollars still hasn’t returned though.
