The hits just keep coming. Not content to keep our eyes off his actions, Trump tells someone something on live television, and it was obvious. It was obvious to all of us, and it was underhanded, menacing, and said the quiet part out loud. Holy cow, is he slipping into dementia in public? It’s also obvious, but this was, shall we say, ridiculous. There was no need for it. But he did it anyhow, as Trump is wont to do. I appreciate Raw Story:

President Donald Trump’s comments directed at a Republican lawmaker raised eyebrows on Monday when he suggested that she needs to remain loyal to him to stay in his good graces.

Trump was with a group of female congressional leaders and cabinet members at the Oval Office to announce the new website to help support maternal health for Americans, moms.gov, when he dropped the veiled threat towards Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL).

We can say right off that this is typical Trump tackiness. A threat in a conversation that should have been something good, the announcement for maternal health. But we know what Trump thinks of females, so it shouldn’t be surprising that he did something like this. And this can’t be brushed off like so many other cracks, he says. No, this is more specific and more attempted, heck, blatant intimidation.

“I hope she always remains loyal to me so I can continue to support her,” Trump said.

“You’ve got it,” Britt responded.

“I would hate to go against her. That will never happen, Katie, right?” Trump commented.

“That’s right, sir,” Britt said.

Really? Wow. Just … wow. That’s hitting below the belt. He threatened her, right out in the open. What could she do but agree with him? She didn’t have a choice. Talk about a rock and a hard place. She either bowed down to him or potentially lost her job. That‘s a tough decision behind closed doors, let alone publicly. Yes, she’s a Republican, but dang, was that uncalled for. It was so random that it had to have taken her by surprise. It’s amazing she could answer at all.

People on social media were stunned by the interaction and shared their reactions.

“Trump literally just publicly threatened to go against Sen. Katie Britt unless she stays ‘loyal to me.’ We’re living in an autocracy,” Andy Ostroy, writer, HBO documentary director and nonprofit founder, wrote on X.

This is stuff you only hear in authoritarian countries,” Vince Wilson, liberal political commentator and YouTube personality, wrote on X.

“KATIE BRITT DOES NOT WORK FOR TRUMP. Why is that not a bigger story!!” wrote Janet Smith, high school geology teacher and political commentator with nearly 5K followers on X.

Omg that’s disgusting,” Elliot Edelstein, who self-describes as a business owner and Sept. 11 survivor with more than 3K followers on Bluesky, wrote.

“He just can’t stop talking like a Temu version of a Mafia boss. Give me Fat Tony from the Simpsons any day,” wrote user Miss Ivonne, a Spanish teacher in Kentucky and political commentator, in a post on Bluesky.

Temu version of a mafia boss. That’s quite an apt description for Trump these days. He’s certainly trying to behave like one. Thus, we have the problems with an obedient SCOTUS and a cowed Republican Congress. Are they ever going to figure out what he’s doing and remember their actual jobs? That hope dwindles by the day. Very occasionally, SCOTUS does the right thing. The last time Republicans did anything against him was the Epstein Act. The flashes of light are growing dim. And so, we continue, looking towards midterms as our last chance to make things better, even if we can’t make them right.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. With all the terrible things that Trump says and does against women, why would a woman want to be a Republican? He is such a horrible, sleazeball, worthless POS excuse for a human being, his character alone should be enough to reject any and all of his stupid ideas. Maybe the trip to China, after conferring with Xi, he will find out how they’ve had a viable culture for 7000 years.
