We should give it up to Ron DeSantis. He understands the *character* of the man he’s dealing with in the White House. DeSantis is making every effort to get on Trump’s good side for his own purposes and so to that end he named a 125 mile stretch of highway in Florida, the “Donald J. Trump Highway.” May not be the highway to heaven but it bloody well could get DeSantis a cabinet post that he wants.

And what exactly does DeSantis want? He definitely doesn’t want the Attorney General post although Trump may try to give it to him. No, DeSantis is angling for the head of the Department of Defense. That would back up DeSantis’s presidential ambitions.
Will Trump give him that and displace Pete Hegseth? Might could be. Anything goes in Trump world and the bookies all have Hegseth pretty high on the list of Trump appointees to be walking on quicksand.
DeSantis and Trump don’t get along that well but DeSantis will happily bend the knee for the right honor. Would DeSantis take the AG position? Highly unlikely because that’s the worst cabinet position that there is, due to the fact that Trump wants all his political enemies eliminated.
Don’t rule it out for DeSantis but definitely see it as a stepping stone if DeSantis can swing it. Otherwise, know that DeSantis has his eyes on the long game and the big prize.
The highway renaming? DeSantis just planted a bigger kiss on Trump’s fat ass. When Trump flies back and forth to Mar a Lago Air Force One uses Palm Beach International Airport which sits quite close to Trump’s home. Except DeSantis had the legislature pass a bill which he signed last week renaming Palm Beach International to Trump International Airport!
