This is almost the last thing he should be doing. A poor decision was made, and it’s going to cost. People all over the world have been stunned, and not in a good way. What did he think he was doing? Hundreds of diplomats are being forced out of their jobs by the Trump administration despite ongoing crises around the world, according to a new report.
According to CNN, the State Department finalized the firing of nearly 250 foreign service officers via email on Friday.
Wait, what? In the middle of the world falling apart because of Trump, in places near and far, we are losing diplomats? Do they not understand how important this is? Imagine getting fired by email. Not even the courtesy of speaking to a real person, but by email. That’s harsh. It’s uncalled for. Trump doesn’t give a damn about anyone but himself, but this was beyond.
“Your reduction in force separation will be effective today,” the email read. “Thank you again for your service to the Department.”
The reduction in forces also impacted staff that would have been able to “provide guidance on the war in Iran,” former officials told CNN.
On top of that, “unprecedented numbers of people are choosing to leave” U.S. foreign services, David Kostelancik, a retired diplomat, told CNN.
“Roughly 2,000 foreign service officers left the State Department last year,” CNN reported based on numbers from the American Foreign Service Association.
That is no small amount. Two thousand. In one year. And now they’re kicking even more to the curb. What the heck is going on here? They are losing competence and knowledge. They have crashed people’s worlds with an email, of all things. Are we going to bring them home, at least? Or are they stranded? So many questions with unknown answers.
Another 100 diplomatic posts around the world in tense areas like the Middle East, Ukraine, and Russia still lack a Senate-confirmed ambassador, CNN added.
“The most sensitive diplomatic negotiations, on fraught topics like ending the war in Iran and securing an end to the Ukraine conflict, are being led by business associates and family members of President Donald Trump,” CNN reported. “Often without teams of experienced diplomats with regional expertise.”
Yea no. Losing all that knowledge and experience is going to hurt us in ways we don’t know yet. It’s another one of Trump’s decisions that doesn’t make any sense. It’s a huge loss, just like all the firings and resignations in the FBI. We are losing people because of rampant stupidity. And we might not get them back. There is so much that Trump has done that needs to be undone, some of which can’t be (see: The East Wing). There is so much that needs to be. And we aren’t even halfway through his term. This is a mess of epic proportions, changes made on a whim, and not being looked at for the whole picture. Our country is being crushed, and our president doesn’t care how much we are suffering. The world is looking at us in horror, especially considering the war with Iran, which has no stated goals in sight, no ending to the world energy, gas, and lubricant shortages being brought on the world by an insane child of a president. Dare we ask what’s next?
