There’s a line in the Coen Brother’s movie Barton Fink where agent Ben Geisler (played by Tony Shalhoub) confronts writer Barton Fink (John Turturro) by saying: “Look, you confused? Talk to another writer.” “Who?” Fink asks. “Jesus, throw a rock in here, you’ll hit one. And do me a favor, Fink: throw it hard.”
If memory serves me right, the two men were sitting in a diner, but this leads me to another observation: The same could be said for Christians. They do not look to be disappearing any time soon.
But sshhh…Don’t tell Donald Trump. He’s bigly mad that Easter coincided with Transgender Day of Visibility and he’s promising to change the November elections into a “Christian Visibility Day” as his way of rebutting Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV), according to LGBTQNation. And why bury a lie when you can broadcast it all to see. As I noted in an earlier story, Biden has nothing to do with this day. But Trump knows a good lie when he sees one.
“and what the hell was biden thinking when he declared easter sunday to be trans visibility day?” Trump asked the crowd at a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Tuesday. “such total disrespect to Christians.”
I guess Christians are okay with disrespecting trans people. We certainly saw what happened when they lost their collective minds over the Bud Light/Dylan Mulvaney collaboration (Mulvaney is transgender). Then there’s all the ways in which Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders all profess to be Christians while hating on trans people. But Trump wants to help all them persecuted Christians who have been so upset about sharing the same planet with trans people.
It’s sad that we have to share the same planet with Donald Trump, but here we are.
“And on November 5, it is going to be called something else. you know, it’s going to be called Christian visibility day.”
If you didn’t know, this is a ham-fisted effort by Trump to suggest that since November 5 is Election Day, Christians should vote for him because TDOV was on the same day as Easter this year.
Right-wingers have been all out of sorts that TDOV, which is always on March 31 coincided with Easter this past Sunday, and the majority of these fools keep blaming President Joe Biden for this, even though, as I said earlier, he has nothing to do with this. And how is this in any way disrespectful to Christians, especially when you consider that many trans folks are also Christian.
“As a christian who celebrates easter with family, president biden stands for bringing people together and upholding the dignity and freedoms of every American,” the white house noted in a statement. “sadly, it’s unsurprising politicians are seeking to divide and weaken our country with cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric.”
Trump has been trying to cosy up to religious voters, especially their money since he’s begun selling $60 Bibles.
“We must make america pray again,” he told rally-goers.
How about instead of that, we make America science again? We make America appreciate teachers again? We make America have adequate healthcare again? Haven’t scores of people been praying for some of this? Has it worked?
Well, next year they should have no objections to Easter occurring on the anniversary of another event that is near and dear to their blackened little hearts…..

Um, the national recognition only came in 2021. Like Juneteenth, before Biden took office, it had limited recognition.
And the brain-dead morons so “upset” about it are only expressing their “concern” because it coincided with Easter Sunday. (Easter Monday isn’t a thing here in the States but just imagine the uproar over it falling on April Fools Day.)

I get what you’re saying Prof, but the headline reflect how what’s left of Trump’s mind works, and also how he speaks. Normalizing Trumpian shit by speaking of his thought processes and speech via correct grammar/complete sentences is a big reason how we got to where we are.
