It’s almost sad that it’s so easy to poke fun at Marjorie Taylor Greene. She makes herself a moving target on social media and it’s just irresistible for progressives like me to do so. What with her “gazpacho police” and Jewish space lasers, it’s just too tempting to avoid. And she blames the LGBTQ+ community for weird things such as “indoctrinating teachers” (which they certainly are NOT doing), and, correspondingly, trans women (and President Joe Biden) for the supposed tampon shortage in 2022. Because damn that Joe Biden, he was putting tampons in the men’s bathroom.

Is this woman even from the same planet as the rest of us? Sometimes it’s hard to tell. But now she’s got a new ax to grind, even if it’s incorrect.

This is in reference to the shooting Sunday at the Houston megachurch of homophobic celebrity/greedy pastor Joe Osteen because they keep falsely claiming that the shooter was a transgender woman, according to LGBTQNation. Despite the fact that police have definitively said the woman wasn’t trans.

But as my dear old daddy would say: “Don’t confuse them with the facts.” And he’d definitely be correct here because Greene and her fellow right-wing dingbats can’t get through half a day without at least one whopper. The reason why right-wingers are so screwed-up here is because earlier reports stated that the 36-year-old shooter, Genesse Ivonne Moreno also used the male alias Jeffrey Escalante in the past, The Houston Chronicle tells us. Far too many right-wingers blame public shootings on the “mentally ill” trans identities of shooters and not the real cause of the shootings: the lack of proper gun control laws in the U.S. and the p*ss-poor status of healthcare for mentally ill people in the U.S.

“she utilized both male and female names but, through all of our investigation to this point — talking with individuals, interviews, documents — houston police department reporst she has been identified this entire time as female: she/her,” a police officer noted in a public briefing posted on X.

A pair of off-duty police officers shot and killed Moreno after they entered the church with an assault-style rifle and their five-year-old son, who was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot. The butt-end of Moreno’s rifle reportedly had a sticker that read “Palestine” on it, although police are still investigating the potential reason for the attack. Police say Moreno had a lengthy record of mental illness and several arrests dating back to 2005. These included assault, forgery, marijuana possession, theft, evading, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

But absolutely nothing, zero, nada, zilch, about Moreno being trans.

That, however, hasn’t stopped other disgusting far-right X accounts — especially LGBTQ+ extremist hater Chaya Raichik, who goes by Libs of TikTok, from falsely claiming to their social media followers that the shooter was trans. And this isn’t the first time for Raichik, who also incorrectly stated that the May 22 Uvalde school shooter was trans. Even though they weren’t.

“the trans terrorist who shot up a texas church was mentally ill,” raichik wrote in her misleading post. “what kind of hormones and drugs was she on? … leftists ‘affirm’ gender dysphoria rather than treat the root cause which is mental illness.”

Her post has been viewed more than 874,000 times and has been shared 3,600 times. But Raichik is no mental health expert or medical professional of any sort. Gender dysphoria, LGBTQNation reports, isn’t caused by mental illness. Instead, scientists believe it is caused by a variety of genetic, hormonal, natal, cultural, and environmental factors, say medical experts at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

But X is full of right-wing idiots who keep repeating this claim and calling Moreno a “trans terrorist.” These same nutters are also saying “our government protects lunatics like this.” Among the pond scum spreading this nonsense is Jack Posobiec, a white nationalist troll and the promoter of the anti-gay #Pizzagate conspiracy that somehow coalesced into QAnon whose believers frequently harass gay politicians and their allies by baselessly asserting they are sexually abusing children.

And of course, I can’t really write Rep. about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) dumbness without also referencing Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) and Putin brown-noser Tucker Carlson who parrot the claim that trans folks are dangerous because they are “mentally ill.” These transphobes keep repeating the false notion that trans people are mentally unstable and trying to “groom” and “sexualize” kids with some sort of “gender ideology” that will somehow confuse them and lead kids into “irreversible” medical procedures, and therefore will “mutilate” them for life. Beetlejuice Boebert has even claimed that affirming trans people’s identities causes school shootings.

Even though, in truth, the vast majority of mass shooters are cisgender males, Reuters reports. And of course, by persecuting trans people, these right-wing nutballs are drawing attention away from gun control regulations that might put an end to mass shootings in the U.S.

Fortunately, many X users told Greene like she is. And she deserves it.

  5. My groomer (I was 15) was a white, middle-aged Christian Republican male. After coming of age, I joined the LGBTQ+ community, and I can tell you they are more open and more accepting than any Xian I’ve ever known. Of course, there are a lot of fakers who think they’re swingers or whatever (Bridget Ziegler, for example) who are really just pervs. Don’t confuse them with the real thing. Alt Lifestyle people, the truly Alt people, are the salt of the earth.
