Interesting development. Tim Scott has decided to heed admonitions that have been coming at him for the past two months and give up the ghost of his campaign. Whether he remains hopeful of being a VP candidate for Donald Trump is not known, but it’s doubtful. Trump did say shortly after the second GOP debate that his vice presidential candidate was “nobody on that stage.” The Hill:

Scott made the announcement Sunday night to Fox News’ Trey Gowdy. The South Carolina senator launched his candidacy in May 2022, and was the second South Carolinian after former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley to run for the White House on the Republican side. He campaigned on a largely positive and optimistic message that drew on his personal story as someone raised by a single mother who came to be the only sitting Black Republican senator.

The announcement came just days after the third GOP primary debate.

Over the summer, Scott showed some signs of momentum in early state polling briefly as the Florida governor struggled to narrow the gap between himself and former President Trump.

But the South Carolina Republican was unable to capitalize on that momentum during the Republican presidential debates, particularly during the first debate when he was largely in the background as candidates Vivek Ramaswamy, Mike Pence and Haley clashed.  […]

The Scott campaign announced in October that the senator was going “all in on Iowa” and moving its headquarters to West Des Moines, Iowa as the campaign increasingly saw the Hawkeye State as the “make-or-break” state.

“We have made the decision that it’s Iowa or bust for us, and I’m looking forward to being there,” Scott told conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt in late October.

Iowa or Bust and bust it is. Now the field is left to Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy and Chris Christie. If we go strictly on polling numbers, Christie would be the next to go, although make no mistake, Ramaswamy was so appallingly abrasive at last Wednesday’s debate that he made a lot of enemies. In a poll on who won and lost the day after, the Washington Post reported that Ramaswamy polled as the “loser” by a wide margin, 26%.

If it comes down to only DeSantis and Haley, my prediction is that Haley will be the lady in waiting, the first runner up if for some reason, like incarceration, Miss Orange America can’t complete her reign in 2024.

Oh well. Tim Scott can enjoy his girlfriend — yes, Virginia, we did get a glimpse of a blond woman who claimed to be that — and he can go talk to Lindsey about how to be more charming.

  1. HAR HAR, good news can come in small chunks, here in Iowa we have been forced to endure hours of repeated BS from the Republican political ads, Scott was hitting us so heavy, repeating the same videos over and over during all hours of the day, he was a giant of annoying BS crap … Now, with the narrowing GOP side shows, the House and Senate will be forced to dance to their own music, trying to sabotage Democrat’s progress at every turn …

The voting struggle will have a long year of poor ME’s and he/she did this and that, the noise will be huge, the Republicans will falter because Trump and his gang are just getting started in their own hell of fines and retention … It will be hard to go day to day without Trump’s lullaby of extreme stupidity foaming out of his micro brain and snaring mouth …

The popcorn farmers will make a LOT of popcorn, just what we will need … 🙂 🙂

  2. Good or bad thing, but it looks like the big money is pushing people out of the race to leave at least one candidate standing to take out trump. trump got by before by splintering the field. The field is shrinking fast. look to see new polls putting one candidate out ahead of the rest. I do worry if a real candidate like haley emerges, because she could beat biden
