Right before we went out to do things, CNN had just reported that Iran had finally opened the Strait of Hormuz. We just got back, and now it isn’t. Can we please get our Navy the hell out of the way and get the 400+ ships waiting through it before someone does something stupid again? This is ridiculous! There’s likely a whole lot of information missing, but for heaven’s sake, get the damn ships through it! From CNN:

Strait of Hormuz: Iran’s foreign minister announced that the vital trade chokepoint would be open to all commercial vessels during a ceasefire with the US, though Iranian state media cast doubt on the move, and shipping companies are expressing caution. President Donald Trump said a US naval blockade will continue until a deal with Iran is “100% complete.”

GAHHHHHH. Enough already! The world is hurting because of the ships stuck on either side of the Strait. The *world*. That includes farmers everywhere. It obviously includes the oil and LNG. Iran said it’s open, so GO ON and sail through before they change their minds again. I understand it’s not quite that straightforward, but still, dammit! Trump, get out of the way! We know he doesn’t give a damn about anyone but himself, but are there any intelligent people around that could get them to move out of the way?

Where negotiations stand: Trump is expressing confidence that a deal will be reached “in the next day or two” and that peace talks will “likely” be held this weekend. The Trump administration is considering unfreezing $20 billion in Iranian assets as part of the talks, sources say. Trump also said the US will acquire Iran’s enriched uranium.

I have no faith that we will get the uranium. I just don’t. It can’t be that easy, because Iran is *still* sitting in the catbird seat. They literally control nearly the whole world. Everyone is hurting. Everyone needs what’s sitting on those ships. The US lost the war, and now we need to get out of the way.

Ceasefire in Lebanon: Meanwhile, a 10-day truce in Lebanon — where the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has been a key sticking point in Iran talks — appears to be holding.

Please let the people with the itchy, twitchy trigger fingers step away from their consoles. The ceasefires are precarious. Anyone can change their minds at any moment. Then the whole thing will blow up again, and we’re back to being stuck.

I’m most likely way off base regarding our Navy. I have no idea how that actually works. I know they need a lot of room to maneuver, so changing locations takes a lot more than one would think. If I remember correctly, they’ve already had to be resupplied once. It’s probably going to need to be done again soon. It just galls me that Trump says he’s going to keep it blockaded. Other countries are unhappy with the US, for obvious reasons, starting with the fact that Trump is an imbecile and taking it from there. They’re looking at the US as a whole unit, not just Trump or his cabinet or even Republicans. We are getting tarred with the same brush for something that’s not the fault of half the country. But others put Trump back in office, and everyone is paying for it. It’s not like we didn’t have enough troubles of our own before this debacle got started.

I apologize for the Trump-style ranting and raving. I am so sick of and disgusted with this, I could scream. So instead of scaring the cats, I’m venting here. Thank you for your patience.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of elderly, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. there is absolutely no reason for a us blockade other than as someone pointed out it allows russia (and us oil companies) to cash in on the elevated oil prices.

    • And now the Strait is closed again because of that damn blockade! Not to mention the ships with things besides oil that the world needs. I hadn’t known that about Russian and US oil companies but it makes sense.
