This is going to be uncharacteristically short (for me) and not the least bit sweet. It’s now past midnight out east where I live and there’s a ton that happened at the GOP convention that I need to process before trying to write about it. So I’ll save that for tomorrow. However MSNBC’s team reported OTHER news and I’m so effing angry my blood pressure is through the roof. I’ll look for written stories tomorrow but the bottom line is that in recent days Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi, Speaker Hakeem Jeffries and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have all spoken privately to President Biden and more or less told him to step aside!
What The F**k?
Supposedly they’ve got internal polling that tells them there’s ‘no way’ the President can beat Trump this fall, and also that he’s going to cost Democrats the Senate and the House by staying in the race. I hope President Biden told them to go pound sand. And challenged them with a question I and other writers here on PZ have been asking which is ‘Step aside in favor of WHO?’ That friends is the question they, Adam Schiff and others don’t have an answer to, or the guts to say. Clearly all of them aren’t about to say ‘Step aside – and pass the torch to Vice-President Harris.’
I was called both a racist and sexist pig by someone a few days back for pointing out that it’s highly unlikely this country is finally ready to elect a woman as our President. The same is true of any male or female who isn’t WHITE. It’s an ugly truth but Trump and his MAGA army would have risen up except for my fellow WHITE people in so many places like where I grew up didn’t react well to having a black President. Again, it’s an ugly thing to have to think about but it seems pretty clear the people I’ve cited have and that they’ve reached the same conclusion. So they are hoping for…just WHO?
What a bunch of GUTLESS a-holes. These are all people who once were fearless when it came to gearing up for what they knew would be a tough fight. Now, despite ALL the evidence before and ALL the evidence after that awful 90 minutes of debate they have proven unable to get ahold of their panic. Instead they are engaging in and indulging others in endless hand-wringing instead of taking a look at the President’s performance the day after the debate in NC and starting Sunday made THAT into a Party-wide talking point. One which they could have been building on ever since. After the week the President had last week capped off by that press conference where the media didn’t land even a light jab that should have FINALLY been the end of the questions about the President’s mental fitness.
Our big three SHOULD have been meeting both with their entire caucuses as a group and individually with certain members crapping their pants and done some proverbial butt-whipping. But they haven’t. Instead of fighting they have backed down.
So yes, the insult of saying their spines have magically disappeared like Trump’s bone spurs if fully warranted! If they get all butt-hurt about it I have zero f**ks to give. They can have a staffer respond here on Politizoom. Or contact my Congresswoman Deborah Ross’s office who knows how to reach me directly. I’m more than happy to tell them all they are gutless, spineless COWARDS over the phone or to their faces if they happen to come down to the Raleigh area.
And there’s one last thing that galls me. These were we are told private conversations with the President. I’m pretty sure HE or his closest people didn’t go leaking it to journalists. That means this bullshit was leaked by THEM. Mealy-mouthed public statements about giving the President time to decide when he’s already made clear he’s staying in is just plain cowardice. So is not saying WHO should take over, especially since they haven’t put their heads together and advocated for VP Harris.
You want to know what a REAL electoral disaster would be? The a-holes forcing the President out, NOT enthusiastically endorsing Harris and having some kind of yet to be figured out “process” for the convention to sort it out. Black women who have been the backbone of the Party, getting immeasurable grinding, difficult work done to register and turn out voters would revolt. So would not just blacks but every other minority. The Democratic Party would be well and truly f**ked. So would the country and the world.
Certain people need to do two things. Get a fooking spine Transplant before the sun comes up tomorrow, and stop leaking the bullshit they’ve been leaking to reporters. The President got us this far. He can do it again, if he doesn’t have to fight the leaders and too many others in his own goddam Party in addition to Trump and the GOP. Referring back to something I said earlier, this nonsense the “Big Three” have peddled about giving the President time and space to make his decision is…I don’t know what the hell to call it. President Biden made it clear before any of them started popping off with that kind of bullshit. So as I told the machine at Adam Schiff’s office either grab an oar and start rowing or jump off into the wake instead of being dead weight!

Stevens says the election is a referendum on Trump — and it IS. Hand to God, I feel like I’m in a nightmare. I’m afraid to wake up tomorrow morning.

Yes I also prefer Katie Porter too….Here in Arizona they’re saying our Senator Mark Kelly is polling 5 points above President Biden! But Mark Kelly is backing Biden all the way to stay in the race.
Nobody has ever successfully challenged Nancy Pelosi’s ability to count. Nor has she ever been called spineless.
If Pelosi says she’s got the numbers proving that Biden can’t win, that Harris polls better, and that Biden will lose the House and Senate, giving Trump the trifecta, name-calling is not a serious response.
And check Trump’s howls in return. If Harris becomes the candidate, the whole Trump assault on Biden’s age is derailed. And Trump knows it.
Head counts can be a LOT more accurate than polls. Just sayin’
The trouble is, Denis, at the risk of making your blood boil further, “ALL the evidence after that awful 90 minutes of debate” has *not* been all positive, and he always looks stiff.
I agree it’s bad that these moves for him to stand down have been made public, but I assume Pelosi et al have told him this privately already, and that they’ve allowed it to leak out in exasperation, to put further pressure on him, after he’s not taken the hint.
And given the obvious bad-look of the combination of his own people telling him to go but him refusing, think how many other people who know him well have been hinting this to him, and *not* allowing it to leak.
And these are the people who know him well, and likely in contact with some in his inner circle – they see more examples of his behaviour than we do.
I’m afraid I think this has gone too far. And Ursula seemed to be teetering at that point the other day. The frequency of gaffes, long pauses, doddery movements, etc can only get worse, and will be reported each time, together with calls for him to step down, so this will increasingly become the story whenever Biden is discussed.
I don’t need to have a particular ‘name’ to offer as the alternative, to say this. The party should test out various candidates who are eloquent, with focus groups etc, & if needed have hopefully friendly competition between them leading up to the convention, guided by polling.
Everyone here knows I hate Trump, the gop, and the nazis like the white hot surface of the sun. That being said, I have to admit Trump does one thing VERY WELL…no matter the evidence, the court rulings, etc., HE DOESNT EVER BACK DOWN. True that’s one aspect of being a malignant narcissist, but imagine the democrats if he was the candidate. They would have run long ago wringing their hands. There comes a point in a pol’s career when the writing is on the wall and it’s time to retire-jefferies, schumer, and pelosi passed that point. They are irrelevant and holding back the party. If ANYONE should retire, it should be them since they obviously have the judgement of squashed toads. That’d be none at all.
