On a cold and gray Chicago morn, another little baby child is born, in the ghetto…And his mama cries…Cuz if there’s one thing that she don’t need, it’s another hungry mouth to feed…In the ghetto   Elvis Presley   In the ghetto

You know, every time I have to sit and suffer through a video clip of The American Taliban that is the GOP far right Evangelical base. One thing keeps going through my mind. And that is the iconic Monty Python skit in The Meaning Of Life, where Terry Jones, laying a clearly pregnant woman doing the dishes in a cockney slum apartment suddenly has her underwear fall down around her ankles, and a baby falls to the floor. She yells out, The baby is here! without missing a dish. The punch line is when Jones and Michael Palin take their 14 kids to the University to sell then for medical experiments, since they can’t afford them. Classic biting Python satire.

These Evangelical nitwits are obsessed with The right to life. To their twisted ideology, the second a sperm hits the jackpot and gets into the egg, the result is a fully functional US citizen, who would have voting rights if only they had fingers to punch a GOP ballot. They are obsessed with the fact that each and every zygote be given the chance to come to fruition, and have a life. But what kind of a life?

A personal aside. I was 22 when I married my pregnant 17 year old bride. Seven months later my first daughter was born. Fourteen months later my second daughter was born. God Almighty!, I wanted those children! And to her everlasting credit, so did my ex. It wasn’t easy. I wasn’t a college graduate. Oh, I had a job, but it wasn’t Matt Damon wages, that’s for sure. But my mind was always on what was best for my children. That was a personal choice.

But that isn’t the case for everyone. When it comes to abortion, every woman who makes that choice, often the most difficult and heart wrenching choice of her life, makes it for a reason. Maybe it’s her age, her maturity, her physical condition, her emotional state, or her personal finances or conditions. But they have all reached the same conclusion, they are not prepared, physically, mentally, emotionally, or financially able to bring a child into this world, and to raise it in a loving and nurturing environment.

And where is The GOP and The American Taliban when it comes to cleaning up the mess of the child that they literally forced into this world? Are they ready with social programs to provide emotional, medical and financial support to the new mother and child? Access and pathways to adoption if the mother cannot raise the child? AWOL They could give a shit less about the health and welfare of the child once it hits the nursery, their entire agenda is focused on controlling the rights to determine her own destiny. All the rest is collateral damage, and of no hearing interest to them, their job is done.

I was grateful to see today that the Women’s March group set up such a successful mass protest, especially in Austin Texas and Washington DC. You can tell that the Supreme Court is already feeling the heat over this issue, by the fact that Justice Alito had to go out and make pissy comments about how the court is being misrepresented and misunderstood on the Texas shadow docket . We need to keep this heat up all the way through the December Mississippi hearing. This is too important.

  1. They don’t do anything to prevent unwanted pregnancies either: no sex education beyond “don’t have sex”, no easy access to contraceptives, no prenatal support, and Texas doesn’t believe in support for poor people anyway.

  2. Texas foster care system is currently under court order for reform. Kids are sleeping in offices and in hotel rooms. I guess more kids in the system is part of the reform. Texas also has one of the highest maternal death rates for pregnancy. So way to go mom’s trying to get up there in death rates compared to unvaccinated covid deaths. Texas for the win (on women and children dying and being abused)

  3. I think you meant “Terry Jones, PLAYING a clearly pregnant woman …” ?

I was genuinely puzzled by this till I figured it out.

  4. Talibangelicals! I love that! The “Pro Lifers” are not pro life. They are pro birth. After that, you are 100% correct, Murph. They could care less about all the little lids who go hungry night after night, especially if they happen to black or brown. And it has nothing to with abortion anyway
It is totally about keeping “wimmin” under their white male privilege thumbs. I wish we never had to end another pregnancy, but I GET that a woman has a right to choose what to do if she has an unwanted one. I was sexual assaulted at gunpoint when I was young and single and stupid. I did NOT get pregnant but if I had, I know what I would have done. And it was illegal then.

  5. They haven’t answered the question about miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies. Both, if left alone will endanger the life of the mother.

  6. It’s really very simple. They are evil. They are liars. They are greedy. They are hypocrites. They are malignant narcissists. They have no real hearts. They believe they are gods. They have done, what Christ warned us about, i.e., trading ur soul for the things of the world. Tic fucking toc assholes. That senate seat & ur summer home on the Vineyard won’t save ur asses. DEATH. The only true democratic reality on earth. U can’t lie ur way out. U can however, according to scripture, lie ur way into Hell.
