But they still might. Have the past 2 months not taught them anything? Look at Democrats standing firm on the shutdown (until some didn’t) for a record-breaking number of days. Look at Mikey finally bringing the House back and swearing in Ms. Grijalva, AND then agreeing to bring the House back next week for the vote.
And by all that’s holy, please let it pass with a majority that will overrule a veto. THEN have the Senate at least pass it, even though Thune doesn’t think it’s needed anymore because the DoJ released all these files except … it was the Epstein estate that provided them to the Oversight Committee. From Raw Story:
A special election for a deep red congressional district in Tennessee is heating up as Republicans fear a massive upset — and Democrats go on offense about the GOP’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case files. According to Axios, “Trump won Tennessee’s 7th congressional district by 22 percentage points in 2024.
Losing the seat — vacated by former Rep. Mark Green — to Democrats would fuel expectations that the party is heading for a tough midterm election.” To try to tip the scales, “A liberal group called Your Community PAC began a $300,000-plus ad blitz on Friday attacking GOP nominee Matt Van Epps for opposing the release of documents related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.” The Your Community PAC ad warns voters, “The Epstein files are locked away. Matt Van Epps will keep them that way.”
You see? The Democrats are on a roll right now, and want to keep it that way. This is not, of course, a surprise. It’s a personal belief that we are going to stomp all over Republicans in the midterms. It could *not* happen, albeit unlikely. The people of America are pretty disgusted with Trump and the GOP. They took a country well on the way up from Trump’s first term and have wrecked it in less than a year. Just not going to get started on that. We had spent far too much time licking our wounds.
This comes as a bipartisan discharge petition to compel the release of the files by the Trump administration has gained enough votes, and House GOP leadership is planning to allow a vote on it next week. As all of this is occurring, Republicans have been injecting their own cash and manpower into the race, fearful of being caught off guard, said the report.
Additionally, another unidentified group has sent out a mailer that appears to encourage MAGA voters to break for independent candidate Jon Thorp, noting his support for releasing the files and Van Epps’ opposition — all of which would benefit the Democratic candidate, state Rep. Aftyn Behn. Behn has swatted aside Trump claims, telling the Nashville Banner, “I’ve spent my entire career focused on making healthcare more affordable, and I don’t think that’s ‘radical.'”
It most certainly isn’t, now more than ever before. The GOP is going to be dogged by what they did to healthcare, both private and Medicaid/Medicare, for a long, long time. No wonder that was our hill to die on for the shutdown. Not going to get started on *that* right now, either. (At least we’re getting rid of Joni Ernst.) When, not if, we overturn Republicans in midterms, and the numbers may be even greater than we’re hoping for, that ball may keep rolling for a long, long time. We would need to start preparing for the *next* midterms. What a lovely thought after the excesses of Trump and his GOP sycophants. What A Lovely Thought.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
