This is an interesting turn of events. There are quite a few people who are unhappy about what Trump is trying to do with the midterms. And there are some added in who are surprising. We didn’t know Trump’s action would generate such a response. But we’ll take it. Oh, yes. We’re tired of Trump throwing EOs around when he can’t get his way. Unfortunately, the man-child has a Sharpie. He probably has one on his nightstand. And for right now, he can use it.
Trump wants to change mail-in voting, even though he is a mailer himself. If he manages to push this through, you know there will be some sort of excuse so that *he* can send his in and not have to run shoulders with us common people, although if rumors are true, no one will want to be close to him. He is so, so obsessed with mail-in voting that it’s beginning to rank up with his vanity projects.
To us, mail-in voting is a blessing. It saves people who cannot get to a polling location, and it lets their voices be heard. America is a democracy, although we’re going through a rough patch right now. (May it not get any rougher.) It’s just as secure as “regular” voting. There are all sorts of things that happen to make sure they are handled correctly. There is no real difference between mailing and in-person except that the mailings take longer to process. So?
Trump keeps screaming about fraud. 2020 is barely visible in the rear-view mirror. It’s one helluva thing to obsess over. There was a thought that this obsession was worse than him making money …. naah. But it *is* an obsession, a ridiculous one. At least he hasn’t brought back the whole variety of stupidity with the electronic voting machines.

Some surprising allies have joined the fight against President Donald Trump’s effort to sow chaos in this fall’s election. More than 250 sitting and former members of Congress — including a bloc of former Republican lawmakers — have asked the Supreme Court to block the president’s executive order to restrict mail-in voting ahead of November’s midterms, arguing the president illegally seized election authority that belongs to Congress and the states, reported MS NOW.
The filing argues the Constitution gives states, not the executive branch, power over the “Times, Places, and Manner” of federal elections, subject only to alteration by Congress. “The Executive Branch cannot justify the Order or Final Rule under any delegation of authority from Congress,” the brief states, “because none exists.”
That’s pretty damn straightforward. Elections are *state*-run, and the federal government has no say in how they do so. And now the Postal Service has also started messing around with mail-in voting. They don’t have the power to do so, either, under Trump’s EO. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” Leave it alone. You or I didn’t file the amicus brief, but they are doing it for us. They are doing it for Americans. There are members of Congress who do care about us. It has to stay that way. Decent people in Congress. Get your vote in this November. Maybe it’s preaching to the choir, but still, please vote.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love.
