Sounds like an SNL sketch, does it not? The “Donroe” Doctrine? But no, it’s just the demented narcissist in the White House doing his thing. We now have an imperialist doctrine named after Donald Trump. And he’s already making veiled threats about Mexico on Fox News. The New Republic:
“Your vice president, JD Vance, said that the message is pretty clear: that drug trafficking must stop. So was this operation a message that you’re sending to Mexico, to Claudia Sheinbaum, the president there?” Fox’s Griff Jenkins asked.
“Well, it wasn’t meant to be, we’re very friendly with her, she’s a good woman,” Trump began. “But the cartels are running Mexico. She’s not running Mexico.”
“We could be politically correct and be nice and say, ‘Oh, yes, she is.’ No, no. She’s very, you know, she’s very frightened of the cartels. They’re running Mexico. And I’ve asked her numerous times, ‘Would you like us to take out the cartels?’ … Something is gonna have to be done with Mexico.”
Trump also told Fox that a “second wave” of strikes could take place in Venezuela and warned Maduro’s supporters will have a “bad future” if they stay loyal to him.
We learned nothing from Iraq. That was an invasion prompted by oil, this is an invasion prompted by oil. I speak specifically of the raid on Maduro in the early hours today. As to this other global manifest destiny that Trump is dreaming up, it’s cringeworthy. There’s no way he’s going to persuade the president of Mexico to let him send in troops and “take out the cartels.”
And remember, even China, Russia and Iran are condemning this morning’s stunt. Put that in your crack pipe and smoke it. This is going to be mega expensive, but Trump thinks the oil coming out of the ground will pay for it all.
