Sarah, it was an anonymous Facebook poster, not Abe Lincoln, who said “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we lose our freedoms it will be because we have destroyed ourselves from within.”

Politifact checked that one a few years ago, probably when a previous GOP idiot was pulling out manufactured quotes to bolster whatever BS they were selling in debate…

“As a recent Facebook post wonders whether “radical Democrats” are destroying America, it leans on what would seem to be a prescient quote from Abraham Lincoln.

“Lincoln knew best,” the July 22 post says before attributing this statement to the former president: “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we lose our freedoms it will be because we have destroyed ourselves from within.”…

…On Jan. 27, 1838, Lincoln spoke before the Young Men’s Lyceum of Springfield, Illinois, about “the perpetuation of our political institutions.” During that address, he said: “At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”

Michael Burlingame, a chair in Lincoln studies at the University of Illinois Springfield, told us Lincoln “was denouncing mob violence which would lead to chaos, provoking the public to demand law and order, which would be provided by an ambitious leader who would rule tyrannically.”

Mob violence that will “spring up amongst us”?

Sounds like the Capitol riot to me, Caribou Barbie.

Exactly, Eli.

Acyn just did.

Well, I guess I’ll take your word on it.

Honest mistake.

Please just go away, Sarah.

Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough?

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

  1. The talking hairdo. Now that all her family is out of jail, she can have time to er…think? Standing guard watching Russia from her yard must be taxing.

  2. Palin can’t remember what Lincoln said? Hell, I wonder if she remembers her own name from day to day.

The face of republican women is Palin. Sorry ladies but you’re idiots for joining up with a political party that thinks you are sub-human.

  3. RW women are in that position mostly b/c their mothers went from fathers house to husbands house & was taught to not say what opinion is until husband/father has said what his is and then miraculously that’s what your opinion is. They don’t realize they are treated like livestock because they’ve never known anything else. They are taught that they don’t deserve the right to abortion b/c they need to face the consequences of their behavior. That includes sexual assault. If they were assaulted it’s b/c they were intoxicated, wore revealing clothes or in some other way made a man see her as a sex object. So in cases of assault, NO, she’s not entitled to ‘get rid’ of the consequences off her ‘behavior’. This is the thinking in the GOP. Women believe they are livestock and belong first to their father and then to their husband. It’s why the GOP LOATHES fundamentalist Muslims. Because their views about women are IDENTICAL. In fact, other than the Allah/god discrepancy, I’m hard pressed to distinguish the ideology of the GOP from the Taliban or Islamic republics like Iran and Saudi Arabia.

  4. Don’t understand why anything the corrupt, immoral Palin says is surprising or newsworthy. She is like the child who is so starved for attention that negative attention is better than none at all.

She’s the person who invented violent gaslighting against her political opponents in 2010. She urged her supporters: “Don’t retreat, instead RELOAD!” while promoting a map of 20 D-held congressional districts in target crosshairs, and referring to “2nd Amendment remedies”. As a result, death threats, violence and acts of vandalism spread against these 20 targeted opponents, and by 2011 Gabby Giffords, one of those pictured on her gun-targets map, was shot through her head at point blank range by one of her deranged supporters, effectively crippling her her life and ending her political career. Her violent rhetoric continued afterward, despite all this.

In 2009, Palin invented the lie that proclaimed the existence of “death panels” in Obama’s Affordable Care Act. Her GOP lawmakers then lined up to make that false claim the centerpiece of their attempt to defeat Obamacare. 1/3rd of all Americans came to believe the lie Pain invented out of thin air.

If there is a hell, Palin has already paved her way there with all the harm she has wrought on Americans. She’s just about as evil, immoral and corrupt as a human being can be.

  5. We all know he didn’t say THAT. What Lincoln DID say was, “You can’t believe everything you read on the internet.”

Among Lousy GOP Quotes is, “Any government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take it all away.” being attributed to Jefferson. Eehhhh, wrong! Ronnie Raygun said it. Anyone who knows history knows Jefferson didn’t talk that way, didn’t think that way, and the Federal Gummit of the time didn’t work that way.
