Seems he’s having a bit of trouble these days.

The House has been working on a budget bill and it’s not doing too well. There are a lot of factions in the House to please, and some aren’t happy with it. He’s struggling to corral at least a dozen Republicans and having a rough time of it. He can only afford to lose one vote and still have it passed.

There are quite a few things to handle in this. One is the cutting of Medicaid, which is going to hurt the states. The Mango Mandarin promised he wouldn’t cut that or Social Security. Well, we know how he is about promises – they are only made to get him something (like becoming the president) and if he doesn’t get what he wants, he takes the promises and breaks them without a moment’s hesitation. We’ve certainly seen him do that. But these two are big.

There are some holdouts that are on the fence for philosophical reasons. Unfortunately, we were not told what the reasons are. But I’m happy to have holdouts because it means they have to re-think the budget. I don’t expect everyone to be on board with some of the changes. But will those changes appease them enough that they will step off the fence? And why did they wait so long to start? The government needs to be funded, too.

Will there be enough changes to satisfy everyone at least partly? Will they think “Okay, I got <this> so I’ll let <that> get by”? Some congressmen don’t think the cuts are steep enough!!! Others aren’t on with raising the debt ceiling. The House Freedom Caucus has indicated that their support for Mike is contingent on him not passing some “red lines’, the debt ceiling being one of them.

This thing is lagging enough in the House that the *Senate* is putting together a bill. Not a good sign. Theirs only requires 51 votes to pass rather than the 60 needed to overcome a filibuster. However, some senators have already said they’ll defer to Mike. Yet who is to say that the Senate and the House will have anything remotely similar?

Some White House officials and senior House GOP aides are hoping the pressure from the Senate forces the GOP to fall in line on their side of the Capitol. tRump has yet to call any of the key holdouts. Let’s hope he doesn’t need to because his megalomaniac attributes are in full view, now. There’s no telling what he might do if a holdout says no. I don’t want to think about that, especially with Muskrat at his side.

So, to budget or not to budget? That is the question.

Friends, we are struggling to make ends meet. It’s not just us, it’s industry-wide. There are star hosts being bumped on MSNBC as we speak. (Joy Reid and Alex Wagner) So if you can afford a small donation or a monthly subscription, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Ursula

  1. Slight correction, Susan: even if Trumpler gets what he wants, he’ll still break a promise without hesitation or remorse. That’s why, for example, President Zelensky’s unwilling to trust Trumpler’s word on anything, and nor should anyone else.

  2. I’d like to see some reporting about the status of the SAVE Act. This is the one that will disenfranchise women from voting. You know, half the population will have all sorts of obstacles put in their way to make it harder to vote.

Example: You took your husband’s last name when you got married, in, oh let’s say 1976. Under this horrible proposed law, you’d need all sorts of paper proof to prove who you are, including your birth certificate with your original name, marriage certificate to show it changed, etc. Think how complicated it would get if you got divorced and changed last names twice!

    It’s VOTER SUPPRESSION on steroids.

This is one law those loony R congress-flacks will get together on. And it could take a filibuster in the Senate to stop them.
