Trump keeps getting checked up by the courts, so we have yet another attempt to override them. His fear when flying home from Turkey is a well-known story by now. The Great Plane Swap has been analyzed just about to death. He left most of the people traveling with him to be decoys on AF1 when he snuck on and off to be flown to the UK on a different plane. That’s pretty low. But it’s so typical Trump. He saves his own skin first. With gratitude for Raw Story:
President Donald Trump demanded the Supreme Court save his stalled White House ballroom by invoking an Air Force One missile threat he once flatly denied. The Justice Department filed an emergency application with the Supreme Court on Thursday, asking the justices to block a federal appeals court order that has halted above-ground construction on the $400 million project. That order is set to take effect Aug. 21. In its filing, the government listed six recent assassination attempts it says make the ballroom a national security necessity.
What we have here is: Was there a threat or not? It can be one or the other, but not both. The possible missile threat and the ballroom have nothing in common. He has his high-tech underground bunker. But it’s not enough. He wants the tacky, fancy thing, too. For as many times as the courts have pushed back about the ballroom, it’s nowhere near a necessity. Filing something with the Supreme Court is the Trump baby whining and stomping his feet. How could the ballroom we’ve seen through renderings and mockups be a necessity?
On July 8, hours before secretly leaving Turkey, Trump posted on Truth Social that he was switching planes. Meanwhile, most staffers and reporters were left aboard the original flight. “For old times’ sake,” he wrote on Truth Social, he would take the older Air Force One — to let military personnel in Britain get a look at the new Qatari-gifted jet. When reporters asked Trump directly about a security concern after he landed, he shut the question down. “No. No. Why would there be?” Trump told reporters.
We have now been reminded that Trump lies. It appears that he did very well on this one. The Truth Social post was to show how gracious he was in “allowing” service members to see the new AF1. He was in a C32A from Turkey to the UK. How would he have *not* known there was a threat when he flew in something different? This doesn’t parse.
“I guess there was a threat out there,” Trump told reporters, CNN reported. “I didn’t really ask too much about it.” According to the New York Times, Trump had been secretly removed from Air Force One in a catering container, while the plane was sent into the sky anyway — with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, senior aides, and reporters aboard as unwitting decoys. Now his own lawyers are using that flight as Exhibit A for why the Supreme Court should let the ballroom be built.
Trump didn’t ask about a threat, when a huge stink has been made about assassination attempts all these other times. That doesn’t sound like Trump. Now that the “danger” is past, why wouldn’t he be making a huge deal out of it? Except for using it as yet another ballroom construction reason, he’s been quiet. It’s unlike him to be quiet about something that might earn him some more money, as he did with others. But still. Missile = ballroom. No, it doesn’t.
