It’s interesting what starts out as conspiracy theory and goes nowhere and what starts out as conspiracy theory and actually ends up growing legs and not being CT at all. You’ve heard of this before, the reported meeting that took place between J.D. Vance and Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch meets with a lot of people and he probably did take a meeting with Vance. Why is the big question. Was Vance there to convince Rupert not to allow the Wall Street Journal to publish their (then) bombshell? The bombshells fall with regularity now that the Epstein crisis is here. If Trump knew anything about history, he might think he was in London during the blitz. But Trump doesn’t and so that image doesn’t occur to him. But these images do.

I think it’s a gas to plant ideas in Trump’s *mind* or what’s left of it. All of Trump’s relationships are transactional. J.D. Vance knew this going in. He’s not under any illusion that Donald has any particular loyalty or good will towards him. Vance was a good talking head on Fox News and other right-wing media and so he got the gig. It was apparent that he would get the gig over the milquetoast Doug Bergum or the hyper ambitious Elise Stefanik (sorry Elise, this is a Guys Only clubhouse.)

Vivek Ramiswamy didn’t have a chance. He was too much of a showman himself and no way Donald was going to put up with that. Ron DeSantis would have been a drag on the ticket and definitely he couldn’t be trusted. So at the end of the day it all boiled down to J.D. A lot of outlets, this one included, correctly predicted that J.D. would be the anointed one.

But will J.D. be the anointed successor? Will anybody be? Because Donald doesn’t think in those terms. He’s not a team player kinda guy. As far as he’s concerned, when he’s no longer here, who cares what happens to the GOP or to MAGA? Certainly not the charismatic cult leader.

But Rupert cares who the crown passes on to. And J.D. certainly cares. And right now the two of them are talking and who knows what is being said? Maybe this is the reason that Donald put the funny J.D. face in his meme of Barack Obama being chased down the 405 freeway in O.J. Simpson’s white Ford Bronco.

And let’s face it, J.D. is keeping a low profile these days. Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist here, just connecting the few dots that we have to connect. And it’s always funny to think of Trump worrying about who his (next) Judas is likely to be.

We’ve never seen the 25th Amendment invoked before, but if more fertile ground ever existed for said invocation, we cannot imagine what that would look like. Trump has demonstrated over and over again that he:

  1. Can’t hear (or understand) questions reporters pose;
  2. Is isolated from his WINO, Melania;
  3. Tells whopping big lies that have no basis in reality, like $550 Billion coming in from Japan and many billions promised from elsewhere;
  4. Refuses to go along with the actual, real definition of a tariff and pretends it’s something else;
  5. Screwed up the *raid* on the Iranian bomb bunkers something fierce, but won’t admit it;
  6. Has appointed one loser after another to high places in the government, to which they are incapable of performing the basics of the job description.

We could sit here and number these failings all day. So what would it actually take for somebody like J.D. and Rupert to get the ball rolling? Who knows? We might be closer to finding out than we suspect.

  1. I think you’re right, but would add a couple of other observations.

    If Trump thinks Vance is getting too big for his britches, he will react. Trump may already be suspicious, as we all are, about the Vance-Murdoch confab. Vance knows this, which is why he’s “keeping a ow profile these days.” But aside from these caveats, Vance is heir apparent to the throne. Except we still have elections in this country (I think). So what is Vance’s base? Wall Street, Silicon Valley, and right-wing Catholics. I don’t think that’s an election-winning coalition these days, especially after a huge overdose of MAGA.
