I guess we’re going to be seeing more of this. Some red states are notably bitter about their glorious leader being defeated. Earlier in the week the chair of the GOP committee in Wyoming was discussing secession, and censuring Liz Cheney for her impeachment vote. I guess if Wyoming secedes Liz will have to move elsewhere, maybe Dad too.

And here’s today’s dose of fruitcakery.

And Texas is always talking secession. That’s like the swallows coming back to Capistrano, you can depend upon it.

Now, truth be known, Texas is a state that could pull it off. So is California, arguably. There is enough farming going on, oil, various other industries to where Texas could declare itself a country. Now if it hypothetically did, how would it hook up with Wyoming and Montana, considerably north? Take over Utah? Plus, they’d have to get through blue New Mexico, Arizona or Colorado to even get to Utah. And if they got there, then Mitt Romney is going to tell everybody to just roll over and allow it? Because we know Ted Cruz would be President of Texas or alternatively President of the Confederate States of America. Mitt Romney is going to be a subject of Ted Cruz? Oh, Sweet Jesus, this I gotta see.

Wyoming seceding is pure fantasy, unless they had some mighty treaties in force with the U.S. and I don’t see that as likely. Wyoming is desolate. There’s nothing there. It snows sideways in the winter, Hand to God. I’ve seen this with my own eyes. The biggest cultural event is Cheyenne Frontier Days. The city of Cheyenne turns into a combination of the Denver Stock Show and Grand Central Station for a few days in August and then they roll up the sidewalks again.

But I suppose they could partner up with Montana and maybe Dick Cheney can show everybody how to shoot rabbits to survive, if he doesn’t shoot them first. They could all live on rabbit stew and get a few potatoes from Idaho, who would probably secede with them. This is one dumb a$$ idea, if I ever heard it.

But you may hear more of this. Secession, like spring, seems to be in the air nowadays, even though it’s winter. Hey, Montana. You’re trucking in produce from California, now. Wanna bet they’re going to keep working with you when you secede from the Union over Trump? Get Ted Cruz to send you boxes of oranges from Harry & David, maybe that would work. Except they’re in Oregon, and that’s a blue state, too. I think you’re going to have to get scurvy, Montana, sorry. Unless Marco Rubio will send them to Texas and then we’re back to getting things through Utah.

I need to lie down. My head’s going to explode.

    • I hate to say this but I think things will stay crazy. Right-wing media needs to sell the stolen election crap. And you see that the QAnon Queen from Georgia, Marjorie Taylor Greene, is doing her thing.

      • I hate to say this, but here’s what I think is going to cool their jets:

The faux media too. All it takes is massive advertising losses.
Free speech is one thing, but sedition is quite another.

        • Free speech was never intended to be what people perceive on the right. That is why hate speech laws have not been declared unconstitutional. The idea was simply not to be punished for one’s opinions contrary to the governmental policies, a right denied to the colonists, who could be punished for speaking against the parliament and the king. When we think of parts of the constitution as responses to the excesses and abuses of the crown against the rights of colonists, it is clear that there should be proportion in all things. Extremism is a danger to the people at large, and as such, curtails our liberties when they infringe on the population generally. Th whole concept of these people exercising their “freedoms” by raiding the capitol is contrary to that philosophy just as the oath taken by public officials to honor and defend the constitution, if enforced, would see at least two thirds of our current political crop removed from office, as they likely should be. As the constitution does not specifically prohibit a state from withdrawing from the union, I say let the diehards go. They generally are populated by people draining the economy. There would be implications. If they would suffer, as Texas would likely lose the bulk of its thriving tech industry. Sometimes the only way for a lesson to be learned is for the people to suffer some serious consequences.

      • Funding might be an issue. Corporate America is cutting off the allowance of any politician brazen enough to go for this ride and the same goes for more than a few big GOP donors. Take out the money and the whole thing collapses.

  1. When you take away the American People’s President with a illegal Vote cancelled yours out, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

    • The only illegal votes that have been found were by Republicans. All three or four of them. Voting is probably the most secure part of government – and it’s run by states and counties.

      • Exactly. I think I counted three: two who registered a dead relative so they could vote for Trump twice, and that guy in Florida who registered at his brother’s house in Georgia so he could vote for Perdue and Loeffler. And that’s it.

    • I started to say since you seem to really believe Trump is the American People’s President and that he actually won that whatever drugs you are smoking or taking must be some really good stuff to provide such a wild trip. Also that drugs that good might actually allow you to make a pretty good living selling them. And that if they were that good I’d like to try whatever it is you’re on. Alas, that last part about the bad taste in your mouth suggests they don’t TOTALLY suspend reality and a bad taste in the mouth from drugs makes for a pretty big buzz kill. Or maybe those drugs are so good, and suspend reality so much that you don’t realize those Trump brand “hamberers” are actual shit sandwiches that he’s been feeding you and your pals!

    • Don’t spout the propaganda without evidence. If there had been any, believe me republican officials in those states would have done everything possible to reveal it. Don’t drink any more of the Kool-Aid. It is poison.

  2. Texas should be careful what they wish for. In Canada, Quebec has been trying to secede since Noah bult a boat. Every election cycle, there was a referendum on independence. Each cycle they got a bit closer to their goal. Finally, the government had had enough, and told Quebec OK you can become a independent country. Right after you repay the Canadian government every single penny the gov’t has ever given, loaned, invested, donated or granted. To this day that referendum has never come up again. That’s what needs to be said to Texas. Bet you get the same result.

    • I live pretty near Fort Sam Houston and joint base San Antonio. We love our military veterans here in San Antonio. No body here is really talking leaving the union. just a bunch of radio jocks trying to get people wired up.

      • Ah, Sam Houston, the diehard Unionist who warned his state that they’d fail (and originally from TN!) who sadly didn’t live to see how right he was (dying in 1863). It’s his spiritual heirs who shall reclaim Texas.

  3. They forget it requires majority votes by Congress as well as the legislatures of the states. And the feds are providing a *lot* of the money they need.

  4. This article is written by a woefully ignorant person. The entire middle of the USA is RED. If Montana and Texas leave so does Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Dakota’s, and others as well. We will demand our tax dollars be refunded for all the stupid policies that hurt the people. We’ll charge you to cross our country and buy our oil and gas. We don’t need your stinking oranges we grow plenty of fruits and vegetables. We have our own meat supply. We don’t need your big cities to thrive and live a good life without government interference. The same thing cannot be said for BLUE states.

    • Check your reality. You need the coasts for all the Chinese stuff you buy. We’re also the ones PAYING for your roads and gas and oil. You get more from us than we get from you.

    • Having spent nearly forty years of my life in the hell’s creation of one of your red states, traitor, I can say that your kind wouldn’t last past a day and a half. Nobody’s going to want you, your oil or your gas in a few years.

    • Actually, many of those states get more from the federal government than they pay, so they would ve handed a bill for trillions of dollars. Sorry, Diane. YOU are “woefully ignorant.”

    • Beto came very close to winning — 2 1/2 points. If he runs again in 2024, Cruz may be toast, especially since you can count on Cruz to keep being loathsome.

  5. There of course plenty of Trumpies in Texas, but Texas is probably the least Trumpy of the Trump states. In fact, since mid-December, TX has been trending sharply away from Trump. Civiqs now has Disapprove 51%, Approve 46%. Practically all his support is coming from white people over 50.

    • I have a neighbor, had a trump sign up for four years, quote “We love president trump” has all the local republican signs in his yard every election (good for him). Since January he has taken down every sign in his yard.

  6. Except for Texas there are large swaths of federal land in those states. I say we let them know we will be keeping it! As for Texas, tell them say goodbye to NASA and some military bases that are hugely important to them. Lackland for example. Again, Texas can absorb a lot but the loss of those federal dollars would hurt enough I think they’d wind up hating Cruz as much as everyone in the Senate has for years. I also recall something about Oregon. I wasn’t aware of the fruit thing, but I recall a West Wing episode about another tasty and very nutritious item they produce a lot of. In fact that state is the major producer from the plains states west (outside of California I guess). Green Beans are a staple of many family dinners, and that’s something in addition to fruit Montana would miss!

    • Fort Sam Houston, Joint Base San Antonio (San Antonio has multiple air force bases) Kelly field, Randolf, Brooks along with Lackland, Of course we also have a huge VA hospital. I grew up a few miles from the Johnson Space Center. No, Texas has no real desire to leave the union.

  7. Hysteria with generous helpings of sour grapes…like their idol, they’re better talkers than they are doers. What a whiny pack of pre-teens.

  8. Sadly, we have a group of Swamp Dwelling politicians, who want government to grow,on our dime. They claim tobe smarter then us, nah, not even close. Whenever you cede rights, property to the government, it diminishes your value, your freedom..

    • Are you sad that parler is gone? I feel for you. I really do. tobe is smarter than you. but you can still do well remember to never give in to the government, never put on a seatbelt or use an airbag, never follow a traffic signal, that is government overreach. never use a government water source or an electrical grid. They are only trapping you. Stop driving on those socialist roads and highways. never fly in a plane because they are also taking your right to fly whenever and however you want. Freedom is all we want. Freedom

  9. Just think of how willing one state would be to be out in the cold (terrible pun mine), hanging on to Trump. No help from the outside, no help from the federal government. And Trump would respond to all this in Mara Lago…oh, yeah, Montana, right.

    • Funny story: that nearly happened with Georgia at the tail end of the Civil War. Their governor was so pissed at the Confederate government in Richmond that he threatened to secede from the Confederacy.

  10. The childishness of these tantrums because they didn’t get their way and are forced to share are just absurd. Republicans aren’t serious people.

  11. Ursula, sssshhhhhhh. Don’t tell them its stupid. Tell them its very realistic and us liberals would be so sorry to see them go. Quite honedtly, the country would be SOOoooooo much better off if ALL the Trump states left! Especially Kentucky!!!! Let them go, and please turn out the lights on your way out!!

    • Bryan, Bryan, Bryan…that’s pretty much what she’s doing. When it comes to this pack of clueless buffoons, telling them the straight truth is effectively reverse psychology as they are driven to disprove it.

    • ONLY if every Democrat is subsidized to move to a blue state, and they take all the red nutters from us.
Which won’t happen, nor should it. Never forget our brothers and sisters laboring to turn their stubborn states at least purple. Never dismiss a whole state and say good riddance when there are millions of Democrats stranded there.

      • Red states just want to live free without Democrat socialists or communists to control our lives. Shutdowns, mask wearing, high taxes. Get a clue Democrats.

        • We want to LIVE, and live free too. A half-million Americans are dead that didn’t have to be because of a refusal to follow basic public health advice from people who’ve spent careers addressing public health matters. Because of “I DON’T WANN WEAR A MASSK! FREE-DUMB!!!” mentality. We don’t want law enforcement in this country acting like law enforcement in dictatorships, including acting as judge, jury and executioner on a regular basis and yes, sometimes white people wind up dead too even though that level of force could have and should have been avoided. As for taxes, that’s a matter for public debate as its always been. But after four decades of Reaganomics and THREE supply side tax cuts weighted heavily towards the already well-off because they are “job creators” each one has been budget busting, made the rich even richer and NOT resulted in explosions of job and economic growth. I’ve never liked paying taxes any more than the next person. Especially at times when I’ve been a homeowner and saw an actual dollar amount attached to my real estate taxes that mostly go to fund schools in most jurisdictions. I never had kids. But you know what? Even though I didn’t like it I KNEW it was in both my own and everyone else’s interest to try and provide a solid public education to every child to better their chances of growing up to be a responsible adult who could hold down a job.
