This is perhaps the hardest time in American history right now. Harder even than the Civil War. During the Civil War there was an oligarchy which depended on slave labor to stay rich and they rebelled against the United States and seceded from the Union. It was an economic choice, made upon a desire to preserve a way of life. Today, we have America split in two, just like during the Civil War, except it’s not a question of economics. It’s a question of stupidity.
I remember awakening the morning after the election in 2016 and realizing, in a very sober and profound way, that the country that I had been born into on the last day of Harry Truman’s presidency, was not the same country that I was currently living in. In the America of my youth, there was no way a game show host buffoon who behaved like Donald Trump could ever be elected president. But he was.
And he dragged us through four interminable years. At the end of his botched reign, 1.1 million Americans were dead from COVID and the rest of us were quarantined in our homes and hoarding toilet paper. We fired this miscreant in 2020, hallelujah. And now, four years later, we are making an even bigger mistake than we made in 2016. Trump is back and Idiocracy is not just a satirical movie from the turn of the century, it is our way of life. Look at this.

This is sheer madness. But now it’s an idea that is alive in our culture. Michael Cohen said that Trump would attempt to invade Canada. Even I laughed at that and I believe what Cohen says about how Trump thinks. He’s been right too often not to believe him. He predicted that Trump wouldn’t leave office peaceably and he was spot on.
But how is this insane fiction of Canada suddenly becoming a U.S. possession, a part of the U.S. even going around? This is probably the most insane thing I have ever heard come out of Trump world and that is saying a mouthful. Although this is close. Of these two clips I’m not sure which one is the weirdest.

“Hysterical?” Being rounded up and taken away is “hysterical?” This is the level of discourse that we’re at as Trump ramps up to return to Washington. This is pure drivel, all of it. And all that this does is prove what a nation of insensitive morons we are and have become.
As I’ve said innumerable times, we are two countries, continguous and comingled. It’s a tragedy that there is a cultural split like we have in this country. It goes way beyond normal party differences. I do so appreciate my fellow Democrats. I appreciate the intelligence, decency, awareness and committment to social justice that we display. But we didn’t prevail this time. The slim majority of Americans that put this monster back in power have made a statement to the world about what America is.
And this is it. This kind of rankly stupid fantastical thinking is now “normal.” This is Idiocracy come to life. That film was made twenty years ago and when I saw it, I sincerely never thought I would be living it. But here we are.
Remember that the orange tyrant also wants to invade or bomb Mexico. They are sick and I am tired. I hate what this country has become. If I wasn’t tied down here I would go ANYwhere else! I hate the whole magat movement and what they have created in all of the country. I was never like this! I went out and bought guns and enough ammo to hold off an army so I can go get trained and become safe and proficient at a class this weekend. I HATE guns! But now they are necessary at a time when we don’t even know if we will have social security, medicare, medicaid, veterans benefits, not to mention if they will go after union pensions and the like, after January 2025. I’d love to move to another country, but I need to be here. My husband and I have had offers to get our starts from friends overseas. I have obligations that I will not break.
