Someone has done something that almost boggles the mind. Someone is pushing back against Trump. Someone has no intention of letting something happen. Someone has more guts than the Republicans in Congress. Many someones stood up and said, “Not on my turf”. With gratitude for Raw Story:
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner made it crystal clear on Thursday that any Donald Trump ally — or any federal government agent — who attempts to interfere at polling locations in November will quickly be arrested and prosecuted. He then added that they will be facing state charges, putting them beyond the reach of any possible Trump pardon.
It’s not just Mr. Krasner. It’s bigger than that. They are completely determined not to let *anyone* get in the way of the right to vote as we wish, across America. This is really something, folks. Prosecutors across America are saying, “Enough. We are tired of the nonsense, and we are serious. Anyone who tries something is in trouble”. Let’s reach out to our DAs and see if they are included. If so, is there something we can do to help? Early voting is a bonus, leaving plenty of time to do something on election day.
He continued, “You know, really the best plan is that there is a massive turnout of civilians on Election Day in the same way we’ve had large, peaceful, lawful protests with No Kings and other organizations. They turn out in enormous numbers on Election Day in November, and they turn out in a peaceful, nonpartisan way to monitor the polls.”
Oh, now, that’s a lovely idea. It’s not going to be fighting fire with fire, no, it’s fighting fire with peace and large groups. We know these people can be cowed. Remember the protests in LA last year? They forced ICE out of neighborhoods. No matter what ICE and CBP are now, if we have big enough groups, we can drive them away. That’s a firm belief. Hmmmm, how to contact No Kings organizers and tell them about this? You never know what might happen.
“We take these videos — we’ve seen the power of this in Minneapolis,” he pointed out. “ It’s not just that the whole world knows what’s going on, it’s that prosecutors like myself or the other members of this group have the ability to take that video and carry out a successful prosecution, even when the feds don’t want to play ball.”
Yes. We can take a video. The country is already trying to work against ICE. The DAs have found the way to fight back. Of course, any one of us could be threatened. But if we have enough video in enough places, it won’t be as easy as they might think. They will have been captured on another phone, and they will get clobbered legally. Wouldn’t that be something? ICE will be confined instead of terrorizing immigrants and shoving them into cages masquerading as detention locations. Let’s do this.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
