As Bob Dylan reminded us, “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” No, you do not in South Carolina. That’s for sure. There are four candidates for the nomination for the Republican nominee for governor, to wit: Attorney General Alan Wilson in first place with 22.2 percent, Lt. Gov Pamela Evette in second with 15.7 percent, Rep. Ralph Norman in third place with 12 percent and Nancy Mace in a distant fourth place with 10.5 percent.

Wow. She’s trailing the frontrunner by double digits. In the laws of political physics that spells danger, Will Robinson, at the very least, catastrophe at the most. Will Mace pull out of the race? Or does she need a wall to fall on her? (Forgive me from quoting from a right-wing source like this but I do so for the purpose of showing you how Mace’s own side hates her, while loving the other guy.) Populist Sentinel:

Wilson gained national notoriety for leading the effort of states uniting against the impeachment of President Trump, putting together a 21-state coalition that blasted the partisan circus being put on by Democrats.

Wilson also filed an amicus brief with AGs from 15 other states in support of President Trump’s appeal of the $355 million judgement in New York AG Leticia James’ case over Trump allegedly making false real estate statements. That ruling was recently overturned. […]

While AG Wilson was working for election integrity after the 2020 presidential election, Rep. Mace was throwing President Trump under the bus after the Jan. 6 fed-surrection. Rep. Mace even went on CNN where she stated her belief that President Trump’s “entire legacy was wiped out” by Jan. 6. She made it clear she believed it was time to turn the page on President Trump’s movement and bury MAGA for good.

“We’ve got to start over,” she said. “We don’t have the ground that we need to push forward and do the things that we need to do to be successful and work for and be the voice for hard-working Americans that believed in his message. We cannot condone the violence … We’ve got to rebuild our nation and rebuild our party.

That might have been the last normal or sane comment that Mace made, mark it well. The article then goes on to criticize Mace for her theatrical performance at the Charleston International Airport (where she cursed and snarled so badly that even Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham distanced themselves) and for saying unkind things about AG Wilson on social media. Simply put, Wilson is the right-wing hero, the other two candidates are respected well enough and Mace is a pariah. She has no chance to win the Republican nomination for Governor of South Carolina. The only question remaining is: how long before she figures that out?

Or, maybe she’ll pull a Trump and claim the nomination was stollen from her and the primary was rigged. That might be enough to land her in five-point restraints with a thorazine drip. Will things go that far? The fact that we’re even speculating shows how Mace has used her position solely to create a soap opera in her home state and on the Potomac. But she’s the star of the soap opera and that’s much more important than politics. Good luck to AG Wilson, although he does not sound like my kinda guy otherwise.
