Remember the boring old days? I’m speaking of a time when people would run for the United States Senate because they believed that they could further a valid social agenda, run the government more efficiently, make a difference in the lives of their fellow Americans? All of that is gone. Now we live in an age where candidates for pubic office call each other “pussy” and worse, as they literally get in each other’s faces and fears of an imminent fist fight are justified.
Eric Greitens is on the hot seat these days as he attempts to get the GOP nomination for Senate in Missouri. He’s a MAGA and has made the requisite pilgrimage to Mar-a-Lago to secure Donald Trump’s coveted benediction. But Greitens is having a rough go of it now after a story was released where his ex-wife depicted him as “erratic” “unstable” and physically and emotionally abusive. And then to top it off, Josh Hawley just knifed him. The Show-Me State is looking to have a real brawl over this nomination, from all appearances. Washington Post:
Sheena Greitens also said that after her ex-husband knocked her down and took her cellphone, keys and wallet from her in April 2018, he explained his actions to her mother.
“When my mother later confronted him about this, he told her that he did so to prevent me from doing anything that might damage his political career,” Sheena Greitens said in the document.
She also said that one of her children came home from a visit with Eric Greitens in November 2019 “with a swollen face, bleeding gums, and a loose tooth.”
“He said Dad had hit him; however, Eric said they were roughhousing and it had been an accident,” Sheena Greitens said in the document. The tooth, she added, later died and had to be removed.
Eric Greitens’s campaign manager Dylan Johnson accused Sheena Greitens of being emotionally abusive and of launching “what is clearly a politically-motivated attack against him.” Eric Greitens is filing for full custody of his children, Johnson said in a statement. […]
The couple’s relationship collapsed after a public scandal over allegations that Eric Greitens had taken a photo of a blindfolded, bound and undressed woman with whom he was having an affair and threatened to use it against her as blackmail. He has admitted to the affair but denied the specific allegations, including taking the photo. A felony charge against him for invasion of privacy against the woman, his former hairdresser, was later dropped by prosecutors.
As stated, shades of Jerry Springer. This is where Josh Hawley jumps into the fray with his moral compass. Nice of him to take off a few minutes from the “meritless” “demagoguery” of implying that Ketanji Brown Jackson is light on child pornographers.
I knew they hated each other, but now it’s getting really interesting. Republican unity all over the country! pic.twitter.com/kzVYtkdjIp

Hawley has endorsed state representative Vicky Hartzler for the Senate nomination. Mark McCloskey is also running. You remember that he gained fifteen minutes of fame for standing outside his home brandishing an AR-15 at passing members of Black Lives Matter.
“Real men never abuse women and children. Period. End of story,” Hartzler said in a video statement. “It’s time for Eric to get out of the Senate race and get professional help.”
She’s not the only one telling him to leave today. Attorney General Eric Schmitt and state Senate President Pro Tem Dave Schatz, who are also in the race, called for him to leave the race on Monday when the filing became public.

For the Republican party since Nixon, those days you speak of have never existed. For the Dems, it more often has since that same era. All we are seeing is the truth being brought out into the open at last, nothing more.
Have to disagree with your assessment of the GOP (at least if you’re refuting Ursula’s lead-off “run for the United States Senate because they believed that they could further a valid social agenda, run the government more efficiently, make a difference in the lives of their fellow Americans”). You may have disagreed with their particular views of a “valid social agenda” or how to “run the government” or how to “make a difference in the lives of their fellow Americans” but, pretty much until 2010, most GOPers running for the Senate (and other offices as well) DID have a vision.
It was only after the Tea Party coopted the GOP in 2010 and McConnell decided to turn the Senate’s GOPers into “what Obama wants, we deny but don’t look to us for any answers.” Then when Trump took office, suddenly the rubber-stamp came out but any “vision” simply became the two-fold “if the Democrats support it, we oppose it” and “tax cuts.”
“Real men never abuse women and children”? Has that twat been paying attention to what has been going on not only involving the G.Q.P. pols but also what her the G.Q.P. religion tells women to do in abusive situations (which would keep any children in the same situation)? This is even aside from the child predation that is damn near a requirement for a ‘pube man to even be elected to office. This idiot broad is as much of a hypocrite as Howl-y. Disgusting.
I’m curious, although I’m pretty sure I know the answer, where ALL these players stand on VAWA? I’m guessing against….
