Kevin McCarthy’s life-long dream of being Speaker of the House is becoming like the horizon. The closer he gets to it, the more it recedes in the distance.
McCarthy has made enemies, as anybody in politics will do. But now his enemies are ganging up against him. The old Freedumb Caucus members that he pi$$ed off back in the day are now rallying against him.
Matt Gaetz is leading the charge. If he’s really got what he says he’s got here, there is no way McCarthy can be elected speaker — not by his own party, at least. Four is the maximum number of votes that McCarthy can lose from his slim caucus and still be elected. Gaetz said earlier in the week he had five down votes and if he’s claiming “seven additional Republicans” against McCarthy then McCarthy is truly in a pickle.

Now of course you’re wondering, who are the seven other Republicans? Frankly, I’m wondering if Marge Greene is going to dump McCarthy. Her name is coming up a lot. She’s supposedly endorsed McCarthy based upon his promise to her that she’ll have some cherry committee assignment, most probably House Oversight Committee. That way she can impeach Joe Biden all day, every day.
But maybe Marge has decided to go with Matt Gaetz. And what about Jim Jordan, has he declared? Thomas Massie? Paul Gosar? Troy Nehls? There are a lot of fringe Republicans who may support Andy Biggs.
Now one thought that has been mentioned is that maybe the Democrats would vote for McCarthy as Speaker rather than have madman Biggs at the helm. I suppose that’s possible. But since Nancy Pelosi has called McCarthy “an empty suit” and “a moron” I don’t think it’s probable.
Maybe the moderate Republicans will reelect Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. I seriously have no idea, because this is getting so weird.

I have a question to ask. Could the moderate Republicans and Democrats come up with a consensus candidate. I sure hope so. Could possibly stop some of the bullcrap.
Yes. The position is decided by the votes of all parties in the house, I don’t think they even have to be a member of the majority party.
Why isn’t MSM all over this, with speculation and analysis?
Liz Cheney maybe?
