And the laughter continues! What a joke he is. Worse than Noem. He’s done more major things and screwing up in the first weeks of his tenure, threatening to take out people at the “Blue City” airports because they’re “sanctuary cities”. Now this. And it’s also ugly. He’s such a yahoo. He’s an idiot who has no idea what he’s doing, and it’s hurting him. How long is he going to last before Trump has had enough? Will it be longer or shorter than Noem? We can hope it will be shorter. She had messes, but mostly smaller ones, til it came out about the $200 million ad campaign that Trump did *not* authorize. With gratitude for Raw Story:
Violent clashes between protesters and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at Newark’s Delaney Hall detention facility forced the Trump administration to deploy its top immigration officialfor emergency de-escalation after newly appointed DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullinmade the situation dramatically worse. The crisis began when images and videos surfacedshowing violent clashes between pro-immigrant demonstrators and ICE agents outside the 1,000-bed, privately run detention facility.
They got physical. Have we seen this before? There have been sporadic clashes here and there. They’ve been small, but it appears that this one was a boilover. But then it generally gets physical with ICE because they love abusing people (mostly). This was major. There is no word about people having to go to the hospital. And fortunately, there was no word of people being shot, so we should be grateful for small favors. ICE has come out of its “closet,” and its brutality has free rein because there are no brakes anymore.
Mullin’s response made matters worse. The new DHS secretary threatened to pull customs staffing from Newark Liberty International Airport—a threat that shocked administration officials and sparked airline industry fears of travel chaos across the region. The White House responded by deploying Homan, following a playbook it had previously used to defuse tensions in Minnesota. The border czar spent five days on the ground meeting with Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, police leadership, state troopers, and Gov. Mikie Sherrill to negotiate a path forward, according to Politico.
Did you know Homan was an immigration official under Obama? Me either. He’s apparently been around a lot longer than this second term with Trump. Interesting. That might be why he gets sent in to calm down the really messy situations. Well, his reputation is honestly earned. That’s something in this maladministration. He’s not at all likeable, but he has loads of experience. When Trump called Homan his border czar, it was a reaction of “oh, another idiot”. Now it isn’t.
Politico is reporting that the use of Homan underscores his “enduring influence as one of the president’s top immigration policy advisers.” It also reveals the administration’s increasing reliance on the border czar to respond to escalating unrest surrounding federal immigration enforcement.
Yep, he’s the man. And he is consistent in that he works with all sides to defuse and calm down touchy situations. He’s still not likable. Not at all. Can’t stand the man. As long as he actually accomplishes something, we can’t be too crabby with him. No, no one has to support the man from our side. Just give him points for his experience and, so far, for calming down volatile situations.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
