I go to Zankou Chicken now when I need shawarma. (They have high-octane garlic sauce. I understand it’s garlic, bread or potato, and a little oil.)
But I wouldn’t object to shawarma trucks on every corner, next to the taco trucks.
My sister told me once about the falafel war in Berkeley.
I am so glad that’s a photo and not an actual shawarma in my hand. It looks so delicious I’d be hard put not to eat it, and I’m allergic to wheat.
I do, I think, understand why they might think it’s a threat. They are very much into “veiled” threats themselves, I assume for “plausible deniability.” So of course they think we do the same.
